Olympia Snow is a pretty dang liberal pubbie

When campaigning. When voting she does exactly what the leadership tells her every time.
She campaigns?

Olympia keeps her seat easily because she seemingly listens and responds to local economic issues.

Anyway you look at it though, on the Republican Senator Scale of Liberalness she comes out on the high end.

I have met my both of my Senators personally. While I know my Congressperson by name, I couldn't pick him out of a lineup. When you grow up with Tip O'Neil as your rep, and then Joe Kennedy, the next guy just isn't that memorable.

I've seen the Senators play, but the Leafs are still the better team.

So how since the June election, you've still not formed a Gubberment?

I know there's that whole Walloons versus Flemings argument, but I love that interviews with Belgians about the subject always gain the same response "No Government for 6 months? Haven't noticed any difference"

Go Belgium!

Keep doing the beer and choccies though, kthxla

No worries about the beer, brewers don't need a united Belgium to keep brewing!

176 days now I think, there are talks about having the previous government stay on as an emergency one, so new laws and urgent measures can be taken. Things aren't looking any better than the day the election results were known. It might still end up with a split Belgium, only time will tell! (no new government this year, almost certain)

As for the chocolate, well, to be honest there are no true Belgian companies left to make it, it's all bought by Swiss and other countries. Some smaller companies remain, but local stuff mostly.

We went to a few Senator games, when I was a kid. My brother was a big Frank Howard fan. Darn Texans went and stole the team.

She really doesn't when it matters. She certainly cultivates that image, because otherwise she couldn't get elected in Maine, but while there are Republicans who occasionally break ranks and impact voting outcomes, she isn't one of them. She's forced to cave to the leadership to keep her high profile committee assignments. Which, again, is fine.

I don't begrudge people voting for her because she's a woman Senator from a small state with a fair amount of power who probably keeps bases from closing or whatever. People that vote for her because they think she's a "moderate" however just aren't getting what they want.

She's not Lincoln Chaffee.

People don't know who their Representatives are because it doesn't really matter who they are, they're all (well most) power-hungry politicians who care more about getting re-elected than making any real changes. This goes for Dems, Repubs, and Indepts (ya funny).

She consistanly votes in favor of upholding abortion laws, that matters to me. So, obviously what matters isn't a constant, even amoung liberal dems. She's got some power within the rebuplican party - plays their game well. I think most Mainers recognize that.

No, she didn't vote against the initial act of war on Iraq. That, I would agree, mars her record.

Apparently her contribution to a party majority that installed SCOTUS judges who will do all they can to minimize those rights isn't a problem, though. Fantastic. I guess it really doesn't matter to you *all* that much, now does it?

Of course it matters to me. The senator IS a republican. I didnt' vote for her. I merely stated that as far a republican senators go...she's on the liberal side.

What doesn't matter to me is your contrary opinion.

That would be the local family company!

Granted, those do make the best chocolate though.

As it's in Bruges, it will also be quite expensive, though I haven't heard of or seen it myself but considering the location of that shop, it's strictly a tourist shop. It's pretty much only they who will pay that kind of price Smiley: grin

Best Chocolate shop in the world.
I've been in Chocolate shops in Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and France and never smelled or tasted anything close.

Pricey, of course, but they're hand-made and astonishing. I'm eating them right now. About 25 Euros ($20) for 500g/1lb and worth every penny.
