Victoria's Secret -- Any relevance today as a specialty supplier of lingerie, etc? Back in the day, the catalog seemed considerably racier and had considerably more variety in its garments. Today it's about as risqué as a JC Penny catalog. And half of the catalog was typical clothing: blouses, sweatpants, jeans, etc. I can't imagine why anyone would shop there these days over numerous other department stores.

Has Victoria's Secret leapt over the proverbial carnivorous fish?

This question is strictly from a male perspective. And, yes, I'm quite aware that I could see boobies on the intrawebz if that was my desire. My point is that the catalog has gone from a collection of sexy-wear to a bunch of bras and panties that look as if they came from Target.

Overpriced, poor quality, and just not that appealing.

I did buy a sweater from them once, though.

I have one Victoria's Secret bra that I like well but it's not practical at all so I don't wear all that much.

I wear VS more for my husband than for me. I will wear their clothing for special occasions.

But I go to VS more for their fragrances than anything.

Victoria's secret is overpriced. However, there are two items I will continue to occasionally purchase from them as I have been unable to find suitable alternatives from other retailers: 1. Strapless bras. Every strapless bra I've bought anywhere else has either been terrible uncomfortable, had to be yanked up every five minutes, or both. 2. Dresses/some shirts with built in bras. I got hooked on the camis first (wave at DSD), and then wanted more things with built in bras. I have almost none, because they're silly expensive, but they are super comfortable.

I will never pay the price they ask for underpants. I'm sorry, but 5 for $25 for what probably totals as 3 square inches of actual fabric is not a "sale" to me.

I seriously doubt that he cares that much about what you're wearing. It's the fun stuff underneath the lingerie that men are really concerned with.

More to the point, not much in today's VS catalog looks all that "exciting". It's largely page after page of solid colored push-up bras.

VS has nothing I would care to buy at the prices they have. I can find plenty of comfortable and sexy undergarments elsewhere and still keep my wallet intact. Every once in awhile I might see something that catches my eye, but it's very rare.

I've no idea what abomination of the English language "grundies" is supposed to be but we do get the catalog and flipping through it inspired me to post the OP.

I'm a guy that used to like shopping at VS with a lady friend who liked to keep a small supply of "trash panties" for those special evenings with her boyfriend. Whenever we were there we would trash talk all the wares and she would tell me how utterly uncomfortable most of it was.

The best thing going for them according to her at the time was that they had a large variety of bras with interchangeable straps, and a wide selection of different types of straps from black, white, clear, anglo-flesh tone etc.

I bought a nice, thick terrycloth robe from there for myself once. I still use it. I think VS is still good for the trash panty factor, though the prices are too high. You can find equally trashy stuff for much cheaper.

The only thing that is different from VS and FoH is the selection. FoH has better selection for naughty clothing IMO.

FoH's foot and hand model is one of my bestest friends. We're the same shoe size so I get access to her stuff. Smiley: yippee

You're probably right. I was speaking historically. Since my complaint is that VS's "naughty" selection sucks these days, it wouldn't take a lot to surpass them.

Hmm, and here for the past couple years I've been thinking that Vickie's seems to be getting trashier as time goes on. Used to be they dealt in elegant lingerie, now most of their commercials look like they'd be better suited to Frederick's of Hollywood.

Back when I used to wear their stuff, I found it to be of mediocre quality, but far far overpriced and with sales staff that really aren't any good at their jobs. If I want to pay $40-50 for a bra, I'll go to a place that actually has sales staff that are trained to fit women for bras accurately, and a place that has a wider range of sizes and uses a smaller increment between cup sizes so that a better fit is assured. Here in Portland, that place is called Just Like A Woman, on Macadam Ave.

If I want something a bit less functional than your general bras and panties, I'll look for a higher-end outlet for those too. When I got my blue and black brocade corset, I custom-ordered the Gabrielle corset from Starkers in Toronto using my exact measurements.

Most of their catalog is more this and this than this. And even that's not a good representation but it was the best I could find. In short, it's all standard stuff you could get from Penny's or Sears.

Those are actually her feet. She's been their number 1 foot and hand model for a couple of years now.

She just got cast for a small part in the upcoming movie "He's Just Not That Into You." Her husband is also an actor and played Che Guevara's assassin in the History Channel's movie of Che Guevara earlier this year.

I enjoy their PJs and they do have the best strapless bras. I love their coats. This is on my Christmas list.

If I ever need lovely lingerie, I'll just head to Saks.

Yup...not that I have to buy them often thank god. I bought one recently for $45 which made me want to curl up in a ball and die, but it's comfortable and works well with the dresses I own that require it...and very likely the stupid bridesmaid dress I have to wear in May.

When Elne needed some new bra's I did tell her to go to VS but only as they have a shop downtown convenient for her to go to. Nothing terribly sexy, but for her size, she needs good support and comfort.

Yep all the stores that sell good cotton under wire bras at $30 a pop are out in the county. Body by Victoria were closes to my Olga they sell. They are 3 bras, that I make sure Jonwin doesn't throw in with the regular laundry. My Olga bras are not suppose to be pink. Since they didn't have any black bras, I went with the lovely blue one.

Been over 15 years since the last department store close their small downtown location. I miss going to NY City and Chicago shopping at Saks 5th Ave. and Marshall Fields.

The toy store at the Michigan Ave Fields and the Christmas Tree was always best part of Christmas shopping. They even had 2 Santa's working at the same time and afterwards we go to the Tea room for Lunch.

Marshall Field's celebrated its last Christmas here the winter before I moved. It's Macy's now, sadly. Not the same at all.

Well at least I still have memories and some of the items that my parents got for their wedding, 58 years ago. My mom always went there to buy wedding presents for family. Not having a Bridal Registry at Fields was a sin for my Irish Catholic relatives.Smiley: oyvey

Macy's seem to be buying out all the main competition, the last few years. I keep forgetting that the Hecht's, were I prefer to buy Olga's at is now a Macy's too. Shows how often I get out to a mall these days. Internet shopping in pj's is nearly all I can handle these days.

Though I will get out of the house for a good yarn store. I need to set up camera to take pictures of the Hat and Mittens I made over the last 3 days. Nothing like being sick in bed and having some wonderful yarn which to knit hat and mittens for granddaughter. Now to start a hat and mittens for grandson and some chemo hats for a friend. Since I don't bake cookies any more, I found knitting is a good replacement for home made gifts.
