Side topic to Tare's spider, I thought I'd add my own "little" creature of interest as well. We went on a trip to ride a Steam Engine this morning, and a wee beetle decided to join us. I put my finger in the picture so you can see how big he actually was. He looked to be roughly 1.5-2" long. Here's another pic. I cant find him yet on the net, but the closest I can come to is that he may be a click beetle. All I know is, we dont have beetles that big in Mass Smiley: lol

Also, I thought of you guys when I saw this sign. It created a slew of raunchy jokes from the Mr and I during the trip over the kids heads. Good times, good times.

Haha...that beetle kinda reminded me of a few months back when I was walking down to the mailbox and a bug on the driveway caught my eye amongst the leaves and sweetgum balls. It was looking at me.

/shudder

Before you ask, these are sweetgum balls.

We have these around here:

I have no issues with beetles or bugs. I think they're pretty neat as well. This one woman was pretty much flipping out in front of her three kids ( which of course made them start bawling Smiley: rolleyes) when she saw the bug. I think she nearly fainted when I went over to it and started snapping pictures, and getting my hand that close to show its size.

I can't imagine being afraid of a bug like that out in the open. But this summer, we had an unexpected visitor at our house. I walked outside one night and went to go down the stairs, and saw this on our window. It definitely made me jump back for a moment. The husband grabbed his camera to take a few pictures. It stayed there for a couple of days then most likely died, we figure.

I'm not going to look up a picture, cause it'll freak me out, but one especially hot summer, the palmeto (sp?) beetles came to TN. I had about 3 in my house. They are about 2 inches long, if not longer. I woke up one night and one was laying in my palm. I screamed and flung it against the wall. It made a crunch.

Ugh.

It was indeed a Luna Moth. Though, I have to admit, we didn't have any clue what it was when we took the picture. The husband scoured the 'net to figure it out. Still was quite a jump but also beautiful.

When i was down in College in Prescott, AZ my first year there was a 10 year beetle awakening. The entire campus was literally covered with small brown bbeatles about teh size of a quarter for 2 weeks. you literally couldn't get to class without stepping on them every time you moved your feet. After about 2 weeks or so, they all died. Then later that year we had cicadas. being from vancouver, WA, we don't have cicads, so the first time one of the huge green ones flew into my dorm and latched itself to the TV was somewhat startling.

We don't get the cool bugs in Washington. No fireflies here either. I've never even seen one.

Some two years ago when the missus and I moved up to the north country temporarily we were infested with ladybugs. Harmless, but everywhere.

That's not a beetle. This is a beetle.

They're rumoured to be endangered or even extinct, but when I was ickle, my brothers and I used to dare each other to let one grab our finger.

(They were about 2" long and belonged on Star Trek, not real life)
