Any use this site? I am freakin addicted, some amazing deals but you have to be on right at 12PM EST. The gist of it is....everyday, one great deal. Some are mediocre, I did buy my 30gb Zune for $79.99, almost half what it was retailing for.

They have a Wine Woot and a Tshirt woot as well, today's made me smile a little bit. http://shirt.woot.com/

They have links to low-cost laptops. I am looking for something that won't be totally obsolete if I decide to download an application, but mostly for translation and internet browsing. Is refurbished bad?

The only way I ever buy refurbished is through a major retailer that either offers either an extended warranty plan or one that you know you can return.

Look for Xmas hot buys coming up, I'm sure you can get a reasonable laptop for under $500 this year, anything less is suspect at best. My advice would be to just spring for a better one, you really get what you pay for on laptops.

You might try going to local Bestbuys and Circuit cities for discontinued machines.

We picked up a 250gig HP laptop for my mother-in-law for $500.00 not too long ago at Best buy. Last one in the store, no box...but full warranty with extended available.

My refurbished Dell Inspiron is still chugging along after five years, despite everything I've put it through. Their Outlet store is a great place to look for deals.

Nepth...how is the Zune? We were selling that through Dell and it looked promising.

I've got a Zune. It seems to work well, I only really use it at the gym and on long trips on the motorcycle. One of my friends claimed to have problems with his, he ended up accidentally whiping the whole thing, but I guess since he re-synched it it's been working fine.

Ipod can take it's proprietary format and shove it. All my mp3 and kajillion .wma movies can stay that way on the Zune. The screen is a ton bigger, the case is sturdier, I love mine.

Only real downfall is the lack of extras, but I don't buy all of those stupid accessories anyways. Most just need a mic plug anyways.

Look for it to drop in price when the smaller version comes out any soon.

I still cna't bring myself to buy anythign made by apple. Yeah, the ipod is mechanically a superior device for now, but if someone would get around to strapping a large 80gb micro drive onto a PDA phone and adding a larger battery, I think they would wipe the iphone off the map in a minute. They really need some faster PDA processors too. There has not been a real increase in phone or PDA processing power in 4 years now. Everythign we are seeing in the U.S. right now has been available in Japan for 4 years or more to some extent, and the blame for that falls squarly on Intel for cancelling their PDA processor line.
