... for 2 years running?

The first year i was in these appartments, I had a few. Last year it was frigging cold so I had none, which given that there was snow on the ground I can somewhat understand. This year, I have no idea what the problem is. the light is on, the pumpkin is lit, I have candy, yet no one knocks.

Nah, not the only one.

Where I live (back in TN), everyone on our block (except for our family) is middle aged, without children or with children who have grown up and moved out.

Needless to say, we've not had visitors for the past seven~ish years.

I have no trick or treaters, but the houses in my neighborhood are like five minutes apart, so the kids would either have to be into marathons or drunk.

This year the local Pakistani kids seem to have woken up to the americanized halloween ("Allah H'wihn"?) so there have been more than usual.

Or maybe word got out that my eccentricity has steered me away from the traditional mix of treat-sized Cadbury bars and Haribo mixes, in favoUr of handing out bottles of Stella Artois and Marlboro Lights.

Of course, I'm responsible about it. If they're really tiny (under 6) I open the bottle for them and show them how to hold the cigarette safely. Their little faces light up at the hiss of the bottle opening and their first taste of that sweet sweet baccy.

Only 2 years? I think it's been about 5 or 6 year (if not more) year drought here.

Well, maybe drought isn't the best word because there have been a few people going up and the down street... But it's like maybe groups of 4 or 5 max every 30-40ish minutes.

We took our son to a great neighborhood last night. (Where I live, there aren't enough houses to go trick or treating). I hadn't seen that many people out trick or treating since I was a kid. It was great.

I know most people go to churches, malls or parties now and yes, that's safer. But there's nothing like a neighborhood full of kids and going door to door.

When I was driving home from work at around 4:00 PM and about two blocks from my house,I could see at least a hundred kids wandering around in groups of twenty or so with parents all in costume. I had to wait like 5 minutes at a stop sign. Some of the moms were dressed a little risque so I was not impatient. I had to go out to the store at 5:30 pm to get more candy as I ran out of the stuff I bought the day before. But by 6:00 pm the crowds dwindled fast and only had about 3 or 4 small groups after 6:00 PM. Maybe it was the timing. People do not seem to be going out with the kids as much as they used to after dark.

Nothing at my place, but I did almost run into a few kids while on my way back from a work site.

Aye. My neighborhood gets moderate trick-or-treaters but, when I went to pick my son up from the sitter's last night, it was like friggin' Mardi Gras on her block. Except with less boobs. Which, considering the crowd, is a good thing.

The sitter had let the kids go trick-or-treating rather than making them stay in and watch everyone else (they had their costumes from the school party) so I had to cruise the blook at 5mph looking for him and avoiding various princesses, witches, Spongbobs, vampires, fairies, etc.

No trick or treaters here. The "Registered Sex Offender" sign on the door must have worked.

You should go out on the street and tell kids to come back to your place for candy!!

I keeed, I keed.

I get no trick or treaters in my apartment block either which is no fun, except I get to eat all the candy which is a nice consolation prize.

This is my 3rd Halloween in this condo, I've never had a single trick or treater. I keep buying at least one bag of goodies just in case, then bring it in to work the next day so I don't eat it all.

Actually, I didn't see a single kid out in my neighborhood last night. I saw a few around on the way back from work, but the closest was about 2 miles away.

Live right by one of the neighborhood schools so we had kids all night long. But I was sick so didn't want to pass the germs around so hubby gave out the candy.

Imagine the kids not flocking to your door for your six month old stale chocolate. Smiley: dubious

I moved to a condo for the express reason of no kids at my door. Worked nice this year. Except for the Bosnian kids next door. I gave them cans of Tomato Soup.

Dude, I'm totally not kidding. We have an Russel Stover's outlet store on the outskirts of town. Chocolate has a shelf life of about a year.

I'll have to take your word on that. My personal experience is that, after a few months at most, opening the Easter chocolate rewards you with a piece of chalky white nasty.

Chocolate freezes well most of the time. The shelf life is also dependant upon the kind of chocolate (like dark lasts longer).

I believe that's because all Easter Candy was produced on Good Friday in 1913.

My in-laws only got 3 sets of kids and one of them was us, doing a joke on Grandpa. It's part of the reason we go trick or treating in their neighborhood. It's kinda sad to see so many people make an effort with no one to come by. Most of them are the grandparent age already.

Those pesky Peeps sign wavers and disclosure agreements on the potential side affects of Immortality, it's not their fault that a side affect is getting blown up in microwaves and eaten by small, toothless children.
