Yeah, the Supreme Court finally let him go.

Quote:
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- The Georgia Supreme Court on Friday ordered that Genarlow Wilson be released from prison, ruling 4-3 that his sentence for a teen sex conviction was cruel and unusual punishment.

Wilson was convicted in 2005 of having oral sex with a consenting 15-year-old girl when he was 17.

He has served two years in prison.

Wilson's attorney, B.J. Bernstein, told CNN that he can be released as soon as a Monroe County judge issues a new order and it is served to the attorney general and the department of corrections.

"That's coming at any moment," Bernstein said, adding that she called the prison warden, who has informed Wilson of his pending release, which could come "some time today."

"We want him home," Bernstein said. "In the end it shows this: That the courts can work, the courts do work."

Sorry Bernie, some folks would argue the fact that the courts can and do work when a 17 year old black kid has to sit in prison for 2 years for getting a BJ from a 15 year old.

Finally. Too bad that we can't count on other such cases being resolved without a public outcry and the support of former presidents. It was ridiculous that he was ever in prison.

Edited to add: Now let's see some restitution.

Good news. Too bad he will never have that part of his life back, not to mention all the missed opportunities because of this.

lolAmerica. Go our justice systems! That's just sad.

Because America will never do it: I apologize, Genarlow.

Agreed. As I recall, he was quite the athlete and had decent grades, and was looking at a scholarship to college before all this went down.

He may have lost some of the best years of his life, and untold future opportunities, but at least he's undoubtedly gained a healthy distrust of the criminal justice system. That'll serve him better than any college education would have.

He's a black man in America. He learned that by age three.

The best part about this story, of course, is his attorney's name.
