The Tribune wrote:
NEW YORK - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.

After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.
[...]
Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.
[...]
Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason.

I didn't read the books. Any evidence of this in the writing? I don't suppose it matters one way or another.

Just funny is all.

Well he does have some rather flamboyant mannerisms and a penchant for favoring bright, impressionable young boys.

Not to mention the somewhat questionable trust he places in the Emo Professor Snape.

I have a friend who constantly keeps making Harry Potter references. I have to constantly remind him that I'm not a prepubescent boy.

Only in the last book, where they delve into Dumbledore's childhood. That said however, there are no sexual overtones written into the relationship with the wizard that Rowling says she envisioned Dumbledore being 'enamoured' with.

I wouldn't hesitate to still read these books to kids or encourage kids to read them. Although there is definately some teenage romance they're far from being sexual. You'd have to read far between the lines to conclude there was anything risque in Rowlings descriptions of Hogwarts head wizard.

Desperate for attention, the Harry Potter series officially jumped the shark.

What a lame way to garner attention. Smiley: disappointed

She has been letting stuff slip about what happens to characters and stuff not covered in books the entire tour. I doubt she was thinking to herself "Outing Dumbledore will help sell another 325 million copies"

It sounds to me like she hasn't had any headlines lately and what a quick FU to those dirty Christians who don't like books on magic. Either way, it's lame.

This rates up there with the stupid $.50 and Kayne feud.

I see what you did there.

Unhappy with perceived slights against the christian right and the revelation of homosexuality from a confusingly likeable paternal character you decided to slander the author with a reference to a memorably bad episode of Happy Days.

So you've all ruled out the chance that Jo Rowling has just won a bet about how gullible a NYC audience could be?
Quote:

Jo: Speaking in NYC next week
Hubby: Gonna take the piSs out of the septics?
Jo: Du'Uuh! Natch!
Hubby: How far you going to go?
Jo: £50 says I can get 'em to buy Albus being a Cadbury Farmer!
Hubby: No Way!
Jo: Way!

Psshhaaaw. As if. I've never even read a Harry Potter book, nor do I care if some English tart dislikes Christians, Republicans, or my parents. If I decided to post every time someone tried to attack any of those groups, I'd have at least 16157 posts

I'd like to point out that the phrase "Jumping the Shark" jumped the shark in 2001.

Plus, this will totally confuse fanfic writers who like HoYay! (see fametracker, twop, etc.) but are less likely to be fascinated with the reality of explicit homosexuality and the reality that dumbeldore had a partner--but they will cope by having explicit pairings of dumbeldore plus Snape or Dumbeldore plus the Weasley twins or Dumbeldore and his doppelganger having a threesome with Voldemort. OMG, and they all hate that ***** Katie b/c she stole Harry from Hermione and cheated the fan.

Totally.

I've never read Harry Potter. But I've heard about the fanfic. I don't read fanfic either.

But if you look closely, you'll notice I didn't ***** about disenfranchised heterosexuals being discriminated against nor tried to throw gobs of money at her.

Dude r u serious the harry potter franchaise has sold a billion books and now the succesful movies i dont think rowlings needs to advertise anymore or wants headlines. Now if she wants to go against teh church she can just say hey homosexuality is ok! It's ok to be homosexual@! and it doesn't have to have anything 2 do with her books promotion.

I've never read the books but read a few to my little nephew when it was his bedtime. I was like "is this right, Dumbldore is the Gryffendor teacher of ***************** and he was like "yeah what does ******** mean uncle Dave" and i was like "it means he's in charge of bundles of wood"

I don't get how Dumbledore is "gay". Nothing in the book refers to his gayness. He doesn't gay with anyone, he doesn't attend cocaine-fulled interior designer parties, he doesn't even try to gay it up with Harry Potter in the last book.

There is simply nothing, in the 7 books, to suggest that Albus is anything else than a well-manered, distinguished, respectful, tasteful, witty, elderly single man who enjoys spending quality time with young boys.

To me, it's just JKR having nothing to do, sitting on her millions, and fantasising about Dumbledore: he's only gay in her head! Cos if I start to make up lots of crazy suppositions on the basis of "what wasn't written in the book but I thought of it in my head so why not" then Hermione is a tranny and Snape is the singer of Panic at the Disco!
