I once researched the effectiveness of a middle school abstinence program-- a week long program called Worth Waiting For. This is a professional organization and their presentation itself is very professional.
It met 5 times for an hour each, grade 6. I sat in on the program, then tested the students afterwards.
More than 70% of the kids that participated in those programs didn't know simple stuff like that AIDS isn't curable, birth control doesn't protect against STDs and condoms aren't 100% effective. Moreover, these were T/F and multiple choice entries. Even if they were just guessing, they would have done better on the T/F items.
Suffice it to say that I'm a proponent of a comprehensive sex education program.

Fear of consequences is infinitely better than apathy.
If fear of an STD or pregnancy isn't enough, nothing short of a chainsaw to the genital region will be.
