So yeah, I'm all outraged and shit that this guy would rape a three year old but beyond that I have to wonder how this ever happens.

The mother had not known her daughter had ever been victimized and was apparently oblivious to efforts to find her until late last month, Donohue said.

"A family friend called her and said, 'My God, you need to turn on the TV. I believe that is your daughter,' " Donohue said.

Donohue said the mother recognized Stiles, a former animal trainer.

The alleged abuse most likely occurred while the mother -- a single woman working six days a week -- was at work, Donohue said.

So, am I getting this right? She had an animal trainer watching her kid while she was at work??

And then there's this genius:

Freaky...I just linked the Yahoo version of this to the OoT. I cannot believe someone would do this at all, let alone to a 3 year old child. On camera. In the child's bedroom.

Yahoo News wrote:
In the video, Stiles is shown committing a variety of sexual acts on the young girl while addressing her by name and repositioning the camera himself, according to a police report.

I'm not sure I'm getting what you're outraged about... Is it mom not finding proper childcare?

I am guessing they may have been dating at the time, but even so, a three-year old isn't equipped to confess they've been sexually assaulted. They may not even know it was anything bad. I certainly don't see where it was the mother's fault at all. He raped the girl on tape, and the authorities had no way of identifying the girl on the tape other than putting her face on TV, which is how mom found out. I'd be grateful I found out at all. So many parents don't.

This is sick beyond words.

Just like this story. I'm close to overdosing on all those sick stories...

It's crazy that the guy in the pictures would agre to have his face "distorted", as opposed to simply cut off, or just replaced by a Mickey Mouse face.

Still, it proves once and for all Canadians aren't that boring!

Exactly. I had to interpret for a woman in the psych ward MOnday who told us the paper was telling her to rape little children. She also heard it from the radio and the TV. She said they had to be young enough not to be able to defend themselves, and siad it all in a very pleasant tone of voice. When I walked out, she graciously thanked me for my help.

I didn't know whether to throw up or cry, but thank God her Psychiatrist is excellent.

Was she schizophrenic?

It's awful, but you can't help wonder if the fact these kind of stories are constantly in the media doesn't fuel the fire, in a way. I'm not saying we shoul never talk about it, but the media are obssessed by pedophelia, and it must rub off on highly suggestible and mentally ill people...

Well, of course I'm outraged that she was raped but mostly I was being sarcastic. I'm just constantly amazed at the women who leave their children in the care of sacks of sh*t and then are amazed that the kids get raped or killed.

Wow, whoodathunkit?

Huh, I interpreted the story differently when I read it yesterday.

I thought the little girl was left with a neighbor who thought the animal trainer/ex-Navy guy would be a good role model for her son.

Either way, I do find it pretty remarkable that the girl's mother noticed nothing. I suppose he left no marks, which means the tape is just circumstantial at best, en?

This is closer to the truth, according to the articles. The woman who was dating him was a friend of the little girl's mother. She brought him with her to the child's home, along with her own children. She is reportedly devastated at her involvement (however unintentional). The man is extremely manipulative and has pulled off fake persona's in the past. I wouldn't blame anyone but him. We're not supposed to have to turn into private investigators every time we meet someone, though if it were the person caring for the child, I would. He was just the significant other of the caretaker though.

I think that any parent would take some steps in finding out who they're having watch their child, but when there are family or friend connections to the caretaker, people generally assume that person has to be an OK person.

She probably assumed that her friend would be watching him, and the friend probably assumed her boyfriend wasn't a ************ I mean, it's a bit ironic for me to say, but you don't really every know anyone. If someone wants to make you believe something, they can.

It was actually even one step further than that. It wasn't her friend, or the boyfriend of the friend, it was the friend's mother's boyfriend. I mean really, should she have investigated the babysitter's entire family tree and asked for a background check on every acquaintance?
