I'm going to go out on a crazy limb and guess that you weren't tackled by a 290 pound guy with 8% body fat who runs a 4'7 40.
I'll go out on an even crazier limb and say that predominatly it was the same size of people playing both sports.

I might not have been tackled by LT but equally i wasn't tackled by Martin Corry either!

For the sake of argument.

Lets compare these two videos. Both are the first results when typing in rugby hits and football hits into the search box on youtube.

Rugby

Football

What do you want me to say? The proof is in the results.

"Rugby is a contact sport. Gridiron is a collision sport"
Did you notice how many of the football players bounced back up as though they didn't feel a thing? Thats because they took the hit on the pads and didn't feel a thing.

I remember reading a couple of years ago that a rugby player had suffered an infected forearm and ultimately had to be put on IV antibiotics.

The cause? Months before, a collision had led to an opponent's tooth being broken off and lodged in his forearm near the elbow. He didn't notice... for months.

You don't often hear about that sort of thing in American football.

(Though in fairness, I'm not sure if this demonstrates that rugby is a tougher sport or if the partcipants are just dumber)

I used to date a Rugby player back in the day. His team played the local girls rugby team to help them practice a bit and learn the game better. The lads were all saying that that they'd take it easy on the girls and not go full out etc etc.

Man, were those chicks brutal. One of them actually bit a big chunk of flesh out of his arm.

Celcio had to quit the ladies' hockey league. She was too mean.

I tried to find an image of a rugby T-Shirt I had seen that I think trumps all arguments, I could not find it. To summarize, it was from the Old Christian Rugby Club of Uruguay and states "We eat our dead."

Back when I played rugby in highschool , we had the two smallest girls for that thing where the ball goes out of bounds and you throw people into the air to fight for the ball. They flew high , and fought fiercely. mid air cats fights still rank high in my awesome book.

Sorry for the late reply, I was trying to escape thej gloating at work by hiding in the Basque countryside.

I have to give credit to England, winning that game with a team of pensioners and Johnny Wilkinson is no mean feat. France were stupid, though. We played the game England wanted us to play. We didn't move the ball around, we didn't try to score tries, and we didn't play with flair. We kicked, and scrummed, and played on England's strong points.

Still, I'll be cheering for England against the dirty Boks.

As for the rugby/football debate, surely the main difference is that football players have 10 years of regular steroids and other drug use in their bodies. Not sure if that makes them "harder", but I'm sure they have a deep voice.

So, Nobs... what's the punishment?

I read in L'equipe that his hair and beard are usally light brown, and that he dyed it black to be more scary.

A teammate leaked this calumny to the press after the defeat.

Oh, the ignominy Smiley: glare
