From my town:
Attack On Autistic Boy, 11, Videotaped

Quote:
BOSTON -- An 11-year-old autistic Massachusetts boy was brutally attacked after school last month and police are now planning to charge some of his classmates in the case.

The attack happened Sept. 28 in Templeton, a community about 40 miles northwest of Worcester.

The boy, whose name was not released, was beaten after stepping off the school bus near Baldwin Drive and the entire attack was captured on videotape.

"They do know he tried to fight back, but there were five of them, so there's no way he could have," his aunt said, choking back tears. "They pushed him in a mailbox and he cut his hand and they have a picture of that."

His aunt and legal guardian said the fifth-grader suffers from Asperger's syndrome.

"When I watched the tape I was devastated. I'm absolutely devastated that these kids could do this," she said.

The kids who allegedly attacked the boy had previously teased the victim. One of the children, a girl, allegedly handed a video camera to a boy and asked him to record her as she started pushing and shoving the victim as the group neared some woods.

"They have video them pushing him in the woods and him being in there and them saying, 'Kick him while he's down,' and 'Do it again,'" his aunt said.

She said her nephew returned home 15 minutes late and struggled to tell her what happened. She said bruises appeared on his legs and arms the day after the attack. She filed a police report.

The two girls and three boys who were accused of attacking the boy were suspended from the Narragansett Middle School for the week and the school held an assembly on bullying.

"We were very upset with what we saw," School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hemman said. "We worked very well with the police and he was right on top of that and the parents of these students were brought in and talked with and appropriate action was taken against those students."

The mother of the boy who videotaped the assault said her child had no idea what was going to happen but also did not try to stop the attack. She said now he is very remorseful and wishes he had helped the victim. She said he has since apologized to the boy.

In the meantime, the victim's aunt said she's worried he will regress.

"This impacted him greatly. He's lost a lot of his independence. The trust that he's had is not there," she said.

Police are filing charges against his classmates in juvenile court.

I heard about this at the bus stop this morning. Looks like it was hush hush for awhile as it happened amonth ago and word is just getting out. None of the parents in my neighborhood had heard about this until this week. It takes a special kind of mental retardation to think its cool to have 5 kids attack 1 while another video tapes the whole thing.

There was a case in Vancouver of a girl that was beaten to death by a bunch of other kids. It was in the courts for years with appeals and mistrials and all types of legal drama. 7 years I think it went on.

I believe it was last year where the girl who actually drowned the girl by holding her head underwater got convicted for second degree murder. The look on her face in the trial footage when the conviction was passed was a small revenge, but a good one.

One of those snotty teenage girls who thinks she can get away with anything, even murder finally getting her comeuppance.

Oh and wiki link for anyone interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reena_Virk

I cant say that its surprising animals do this in the wild all the time. Parents cant keep their little monsters in check and they revert to the whole "group mentality".

I know they have to be responsible for their actions but i mean they are in fifth grade I think the parents need to be held accountable as well.

******* kids and their rock music.

No way are parents responsible for that mess. It's groupthink to some extent, but at that age, a child should have some concept of morality that tells him/her it's not okay to kill.

I definitely see some kind of mob mentality to this. The only thing that makes it worse is that a girl handed over a recorder of some sort, thus knowing it was premeditaded. They knew it was wrong, point blank.

I had a talk about this incident with my son today. I'm proud of him. I told him some older kids beat up another one because he was different from them. He looked at me and said "that is so stupid! Everyones different. It would be boring if we were all the same.I hope they got a time out." We then went on on what he should do if he saw someone hurting another child. His immediate answer, tell them to stop and then get an adult.

Parents have to start instilling these things at a young age and constantly refresh the communication lines. There was previously bullying of this child from these kids prior to the beating. Id like to know if anything had been done discipline wise prior to this incident and if the parents were informed.

Yes, yes...

...but secretly, deep down...

...everyone would like to see the video tape of what happened...

...of course...I would only watch it so I can judge for myself right?Smiley: rolleyes...

...and you know displaying this one kid's misery all over national news will not affect him at all...he's just a ****** anyway...he won't understand.Smiley: oyvey

I would like to see the vidio... from that i could judge or at least i think i can judge if it was the groupthink im speaking of.

Remember a few years back i think it was a North Carolina school. The girls had a powderpuff football game that turned into a horrible hazing. Girls were shot at point blank range w/ paintball guns, had fecal matter thrown at them, and where beaten mercilessly. It was all cough on tape im sure its around if you wish to sea it.

They blamed that on group think This may fall under the same category.

Just to give the masses something to munch on...how about the most violent real life death scene from any movie? I think watching the murder scene from the movie Bully should be satisfyingly grotesque. Smiley: grin

Huge congratulations to you for being a hands-on parent. It's so great to see it when it all works.
