In this instance, by virtue of being a customer waiting at the counter for service.

I'm certainly not in the "customer is infallible" camp, but when your JOB is to serve people food, you owe those people a certain amount of respect the second they walk in the door. They're the reason you're employed.

I am not one to say I am never a ***** Smiley: grin but damn if you work on food service and you have an issue, it will show with every gesture and word. FFS, go home before you ruin someone else's day besides your own.

Although the manager was disrespectful to Elderon with her comments, I believe he crossed the line by essentially threatening her job when he asked for her information.

How would I have handled it? I would have gotten her attention, placed my order, paid and gotten out of there. I'm not into stress.

The best way for me to control a situation, assuming I need to control it, is to stay cool and keep my voice down, almost too low. But everyone is different.

All of this assumes I would be in a hellhole like McD's in the first place, of course.

The POINT of parents is to embarass their kids. Why the hell should parents care that their kids are mortified and since when did that hold any sway over anything?

Get off your @#%^ing high horse. Stop being an @#%^ to people. I hope your wife sets a better example for your kids because you sure as hell don't.

I hate people like you. You seem to think that asking for information that should be readily given is some kind of threat. It's not. The reason why it might be construed as such is because some whiny cnut got out of line. But that's got nothing to do with Eldy and everything to do with the cnut. If she was perfectly behaved and polite? THat question would mean nothing. Edly's actions didn't attribute the threat to that question, the cnut's did. In other words, you reap what you sow.

You'vbe been that cnut, haven't you? Being an absolute **** and then blaming someone for calling you on it. Why say something? Not for free food. Yeah you could just let it go and not go back. But then nothing will ever improve. It may not anyway but at least you could say you weren't some spineless twunt who didn't want to treat someone half as rudely as they treated you. Oh noes, god forbid I stand up for myself! I think I'll just slink off into the shadows and pay some roach to suck my cock.

My sentiments exactly.

Additionally, if you disagree, I'll just take pride in knowing that I really am better than you. Especially that self-loathing moogle fucker, Sanothewhatsit.

As an aside, I've been known to ask for store numbers from employees when they've offered great service because I think those people should be recognized when it comes time for promotion. The ***** knew she fucked up and got everything she deserved.

There was a restaurant that I used to frequent and I would write glowing letters of appreciation when the service was particularly good. After the first 2 letters, no matter what, the staff was EXTREMELY PLEASANT to me because they knew that if I wrote a letter to management, they got whatever bonus it was.

I just wanted to add, I had to google barista. I guess I'm not part of the pseudo-intellectual self important crowd that frequents overpriced coffee selling joints like Starbucks. Or at least, not enough to know there is actually a "title" for someone who pours the damn coffee into the cup.

Hah, I knew this from seeing applications available at a Starbuck's with a sign that said "Be a Barista!" or whatever. I thought, "Well, if that isn't as pretentious as a half-caf skinny mocha-caramel frappacino!" and I remembered the word.

I have only been to a Starbucks once and it was because it was an integrated cafe with a Chapter's book store. I looked long and hard at the menu since nowhere did it list any regular coffee offerings. I told the guy, I'd like a large regular coffee. He looked at me as if I was like I was speaking some foreign language.

PS. That coffee was one of the ********* I've ever had, so I stick to Tim's.

Well, yeah. If you have to routinely mask the flavor of your coffee with syrups and milk, you're serving bad coffee.

Yet, somehow they can justify charging over $3 for a regular coffee. Smiley: confused

There are a lot of things in this life that I have no chance in hell of understanding since they defy all logic and reason. Why people pay so much over and over for the ********* coffee on earth is one of them. Another is why so many people in the US voted for Bush. /boggle

I went out for Sushi with a friend of mine a few weeks ago. The food and service was great and because of this my friend, as she always does when she has a great experience in a restaurant, asked to speak to the Manager. Every employee within hearing got that constipated look and as this one of those restaurants with the revolving Sushi bar, there was three or four cooks in the center and several waitresses nearby. So, the manager comes out, this middle aged Japanese man, bowing mechanically over and over and smiling as if someone forced a dirty sock into his mouth. He asked if there was anything he could do for us, 'anything at all' and my friend spend a good several minutes praising the staff and complimenting them on the delicious food.

We went back last week and we were treated like royalty.

I hate fast food. I've never worked in it, and neither shall my child.
At least not in america or canada (i'm assuming it's the same, only been to 1 in canada). In japan, fast food chains are actually very well kept, and it is an actual job, not something that junior/high school kids work at for cash, under the "watchful gaze" of a coke-***** manager.

**note: no offense to anyone who's ever worked at any type of establishment like this...however if you have, and you weren't one of the better employees...i hope someone spat their burger at you after you spat in it to get back at them, not knowing they were going to get back at you**.

Burger King doesn't shred their lettuce. Don't remember who said it but obviously they haven't been to one.

Unless Burger Kings are wildly different from each other across the world.

Makes me gag to remember that one time I had a Big Mac. Lettuce tasted like I would imagine office shredded paper to taste. Couldn't wait to get a drink but that was a mistake too because that tasted like syrup.

McDonalds is nothing compared to the Taco Bell my husband and I went to near the border of Mexico. They refused to serve us at all. We got to speculating how long they would let us stand there and waited for 30 minutes. The manager wandered by and wiped down the counter and served all spanish people who came in and ignored us. It was an amazing experience. lol still makes me laugh. I honestly don't think they spoke english because spanish is all we heard.

I've never seen a Hispanic person working in or eating at a Taco Bell.

Seems kinda harsh. Sounds like the woman was already under a certain amount of duress for whatever reason. Honestly, is it really worth all the fuss over a few ice cream cones latently received? I worked at McDonald's five years ago and the pay is honestly not worth the work involved and the stuff you have to take from customers and management alike. If you had been sexually harassed, or the woman had yelled at your children, or cursed in front of them, then I would understand. From everything you've said, you didn't appreciate her tone and you waited to get service. All in all as far as bad customer service goes, I can think of a thousand worse offenses off the top of my head.

Throughout high school and college, I've had my fair share of other customer service oriented jobs. I had a man scream and swear at me til I cried in front of his family on Christmas Eve because he forgot to order something and my mind-reading wasn't up to par. I've always made a point to be as polite as I possibly can regardless of circumstance, but damn is it hard when you deal with rude customers one after another. It seems the lower the pay and esteem of the job, the more people feel like they can use you as a personal punching bag for their bad days. If you had instead been visiting your lawyer or your doctor, and your appointment was late because they were occupied with other things, would you speak to them that way and expect them to serve you in the same way? I bet not. Having a little compassion and trying to see something from someone else's perspective goes a long way towards garnering positive outcomes. How would you feel if you were dealing with several things at the same time and someone blatantly disrespected you and was open about the fact they're going to report you? While I fully admit and agree that the situation could've been handled better on her end, but even your opening line ("Is it just me or are some of Canada/America's finest employed at McDonald's?") is dripping with contempt and arrogance, and it makes me sincerely doubt that you weren't equally as rude as she was and probably aren't telling an impartial story. I assume that you work as well, and regardless of what your profession is, it does not give anyone else the right to treat your subhuman and without general understanding.

Anyway, time spent at jobs like that has given me appreciation for the people who work the jobs that none of the rest of us would like to. Now if I encounter exceptionally rude or terrible customer service, I simply do not visit or support the offender, but I also don't go out of my way to ride my high horse and start a campaign against them.

Ever actually employed a lawyer? Yeah, personally when I'm paying someone three hundred dollars an hour I take even less **** from them than I do the fUckslap behind the counter at Mickey-D's.

I could hardly stand to read the rest of your post, because it was all full of misguided compassion for some ******** fastfood worker. I don't give a fUck if you worked at McDonald's for half a decade. That doesn't mean I need to view you or any other food service worker as a valid human when you're not doing your job. Hell, even when you are satisfactorily performing the multiple demanding tasks required of a burger-flipper I don't need to treat you like anything other than the worthless piece of **** you are, because you're getting paid to serve me.

If the pay isn't worth the grueling labor involved in dealing with people, then get a job assembling boxes in a factory, or gutting pigs at the slaughterhouse, but until then you will get me a burger or you will get Eldy's family their sundaes and you will do it promptly, with none of your fUcking lip and you're going to smile, too.
