I've been bumped into, shoved, had folks cut ahead of me in line, never even apologizing, much less acknowledging it. All the polite, helpful ones are hispanic, in the clergy, or Americans/Canadians. If it's a mistaken impression overall, so be it, but it was certainly true of my time in Rome. I'm finding folks in Florence nicer.

That wasn't my experience over there, other than typical city folk sorta stuff.

They probably think you're a Gypsy.

I found the Italians to be a bit more uncaring that I had anticipated, something like a consistent ********** off, I have better things to do" attitude.

Make sure you get out of Florence at least once. The surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous, and the vineyards always have wine tasting. My favorite town in Tuscany was San Gimignano, and Lucca is fun to see as well.

I was in Italy for the summer and I never found the Italians very rude. Rome was my least favorite city though because it was way too busy for my liking. Florence, Venice(even though its crowded here too), Lake Garda and Cinque Terra were all beautiful and calm for the most part, compared to Rome anyway. Someone mentioned that Italians are a lot nicer to Canadians than Americans, so maybe that was it.

If you get the chance Jophiel/Flea, go to Cinque Terra. We had arguably the best food and experience there. There's five small mountain towns on the Ocean and there are beautiful hikes from one to the next. Although for warning, be prepared to actually "Hike." I saw some tourists with sandals and I can't even imagine.

I tend to agree with Flea that Italians are rude, self-obssessed, emo-gelled-up girlie men, who are not only incapable of queuing or saying sorry, but are also short and oily and live with their mama until they're 30...

But that's probably just cos I'm French Smiley: grin

And don't get me started on anything South of Naples, it's just Morocco with an Italian accent and a bad addiction to stolen goods.

And Corleone is a village, not a region.

Hope you guys are having a good time, and please kick a few Italians for me, Flea Smiley: wink

The honeymoon is over.

If my limited, second-hand experience has taught me anything, it's that passive-aggressiveness and avoidance come next.

Welcome back!

Welcome home! I hope you allowed a couple of days off work to get over the jet lag. If you go into the office today or tomorrow I can pretty much guarantee zero productivity (and possibly some really amusing posts. Go to the office, Joph. Go to the offffffiiiiiiiiiice).
