Gotta love this
So. Rev. Jackson's speaking to a crowd of the faithful and lets slip that he thinks Obama is too white. Apparently, his whiteness is due to the fact that he isn't jumping up and down and protesting the unfairness of a black teen being charged for assaulting a white teen strongly enough. Or not in the "correct way" I guess...
So what's the deal here? Is a statement like: "When nooses are being hung in high schools in the 21st century, it’s a tragedy, ... It shows that we still have a lot of work to do as a nation to heal our racial tensions.†too white? Does he have to do some wailing and gnashing of teeth in condemnation of the events surrounding Jena to qualify as "black"?
I guess my issue with this is Jackson presuming that all black people must approach every political problem and every political solution in exactly the same way. IMO, it's exactly that sort of thinking that is causing most of the racial issues in this country, not folks like Obama. Certainly, creating some kind of "blackness" qualification for a black candidate to achieve approval from black voters seems to be counter productive, especially when those qualifications seem to include ignoring all facts of a case except the color of the skins of those involved...
What happened to working towards a colorblind society? I guess I just don't get it.
