We just got back from the hospital for another baby photo session. This was cool; the first live sonogram I've ever seen. Little ******* was all wiggly and refused to pose for us, so mommy had to shift around a lot.

I saw hands with fingers, legs and feet, a brain, a head (that looked like the metal Terminator skull) with eyes, nose, mouth; the spine and ribs, kidneys, beating heart, weiner, stomach. Everything is perfectly normal, right size, good heartbeat (150ish?). We're supposedly about five months along, due date is Valentine's Day.

It was so friggin cool! Except the nurse hardly talked, and whe she did was mostly unintelligible. I kept having to make her tell me what the blobby, morphing shapes I was seeing were.
"What's that you're taking pictures of?"
"Heart."
After ten minutes of captioning pictures RV and LV, I ventured a guess.
"Right ventricle and left ventricle?"
"Yes."

The sonogram looks like an underwater cave with sunlight filtering in from the top, which I guess is pretty accurate. The baby for the most part looked like some kind of alien, but we did get a very nice picture printed out. Eventually I'll get it posted up for those interested.

Congrats man. The first sonogram is the first moment I actually started to feel connected to that little blob.

Congradulations seem premature, so I'll just say kudos for getting laid.

He did say Weiner. I'm assuming that was the wiggly part.

I made the same mistake after the first sonogram pictures came back (about a month ago).
"Holy crap, he's already as big as me!"

Thanks everyone!

Me too. After the scan was over and we were driving home, I looked at my husband all dewey-eyed and announced, "I'm in love."

Yay for boys! From what Ive been told and seen, they're harder to cope with the first few years, but in general a lot easier throughout. As long as you like cars, trains, boats, and rocket ships, you're good. Any names?

With my first, who is now about a year and 3/4, we got a VHS tape of the whole thing. It was awesome. We rigged the TiVo to the VCR and now have it in digitial format, and on our computers. We had a spiffy "4-d" (three spacial plus time, I assume) ultrasound due to some obscure slight genetic defect in my sister in law's child (absent in our child). It's pretty spiffy to see the blood flowing through all the chambers of the heart.

The name will be Thom Robert.
Thom from the "Song of the Lioness" books by Tamora Pierce, Robert being the wife's father's name (deceased).
