I hope you really were not invested in the series, seeing as Robert Jordan passed away. On the ironic side, Sickabilly has been listening to his books on tape during his commute, and just thought the other day how Robert better not die before his books are done. Then he found this out.

Quote:
Fantasy novelist Robert Jordan dies

Author Robert Jordan, whose hugely popular Wheel of Time fantasy novel series has sold millions of copies, has died at age 58 of a rare blood disease, it has been reported.

Jordan died on Sunday of complications from primary amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy, his personal assistant, Maria Simons, told the Associated Press.

The blood disease caused the walls of the author's heart to thicken.

Jordan's books include The Eye of the World, Knife of Dreams, New Spring: the Novel, The Great Hunt, Lord of Chaos and The Path of Daggers.

Most of Jordan's books have made The New York Times' best sellers list.

Word has it that he spent the last few weeks dictating his notes to his wife and editor so that they can finish the final book that he was working on.

I had hoped that the book would end the series well and make some sort of sense out of the last several that had turned out to be so confusing and discombobulated. I have my doubts.

Hence the reason I stopped reading around book 8.

I stopped reading around book 5ish, maybe it was six...I forget. They got way too stupid and the suspension of disbelief quota was maxed out for me. I was tired of trying to keep track of who was dead, who was alive, who was previously dead but alive again, who was dead but now alive but using a different name, etc. If I want to deal with that ****, I'll watch Days of Our Lives.

Blech.

I was 16 when I picked up book one. While the series took a hard dive book 6/7 onwards the last book was rekindling it. I know he had been working feverishly on book 12 which he promised to be the final book, one can only hope that he had gotten far enough along to have a ghost writer finish it up.

My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Smiley: nod

I was reading them as they came out. Between books 4 and 5 or maybe 5 and 6, there was such a time lag and so many new characters, places, groups, plots etc, introduced I couldn't keep up without going back and rereading. So, I quit reading them as well.

The last one was less of a confusing mess, and seemed to be angling towards an actual ending. He did say this one would be the last one no matter how many pages it turned out to be, and last I heard he had estimated it to be over 1k pages.

So if nothing else, if it gets finished it'll make a very efficient paperweight.

The last few books were just way too convoluted so I stopped. But I was planning to pick them up again.

The RUMOR is that Mr. Jordan sensed that his death was imminent and worked with his wife and dictated a lot of notes on how he wanted to end out the stories so there is a possibility that the final book will come out, but ghostwritten by someone else. His wife supposedly helped with the last few books (if that's the case, that explains the hodge-podginess of those books) as his health declined.

So, I expect a book to come out within the next 18 months.

Jordan was well aware of his medical condition and that fans would be ******** bricks if he died with an unfinished story.

For the last year now he has been constantly stating that he he wanted to finish the book before he passed on, but was prepared for case of him dying before it was done. Since in interviews he had stated that he started the story knowing how it would end I am guessing he at least had drafts outlining the end, character development and key points.

Least I am hoping, looking at the interviews he definitely hints that he had.

I don't even need a full book. **** a synopsis of what happens to Rand, Perrin, Matt and all the other main characters is good enough.

Perrin gets rabies, bites off Rand's other hand forcing him to only be able to gratify himself with his feet. Matt, imitating the classic "Old Yeller" story, takes Perrin out back to put him down with a newly developed cannon using a bell mold and fireworks.

Miles away, Nynave, Egwene, Elayne, Min, and Avienda all turn ***** and have a large Wiccan-like ceremony complete with a female only orgy.

Everyone else has a party with much drinking of ale and fornicating.

He died without finishing the last book? How inconsiderate.

I'd always thought that SK would die before finishing the Dark Tower series. Now I just have to read the last half of that.

After Perrin gets shot with the cannon, Faile gets a nose job, decides with the death of Perrin she will only sleep with women, and later joins in the female orgy.

I have to admit, Perrin's letter to Faile when he thought he was leaving to go off to his death in like the 2nd or 3rd book made me cry. I'm sure I was just having a bad day and that sentimental **** wouldn't work right now, but at the time I read it, I was touched.

I'm glad he's dead, ******.

you know, all we really need is the last chapter. As long as he wrote that, whatever happened in the middle will be mostly irrelevant.
