Yes, I'm that fUcking bored!

The last time I ran a Prize Competition, the whole deal back-fired and I ended up sending some old black gay guy a CD of my favoUrite English folk-rock band. His name was 'Toto' or 'Toe-rag' or 'Rastus' or some-such.

Anywho. . .

Having watched the Shawshank Redemption again Smiley: bowdown, I wondered what it would be like to be released from Jail after 40 years, and what would be the most amazing 'new thing'?

A few co-workers and I debated this with some assumptions about total ignorance of the developments since 1967 - (No access to outside news)

The usual suspects were discussed: Moon-landings, fall of the iron curtain, CD's, Computers, etc. etc.

So here's the deal.

Of all the inventions and innovations that have happened since the late '60s, which one would freak you out the most?

Explain your reasoning (I will be checking your draft notes and workings-out). Points will be deducted for incoherence, bad speling, plagiarism, wolly thinking, or being gbaji.

Bonus points for posting pictures of bewbs (self only, and no, not you Codyy).

Closing date is Monday 17th, Midnight GMT.

1st Prize is a $25 iTunes or Amazon voucher.
(It was going to be my Nobby & Darqflame Gonzo **** video, but Darqflame says it doesn't do her hairstyle justice)

Viagra. You'd have alot boinking to make up. Not computers 'cause 60+ year olds who have never used a computer, most likely never will. Ditto for most new fangled technology gadgets like ipods etc. But taking a pill and boinking with a 17 year's woody, that is priceless for someone like that. Real tasteing Guiness in a can with the CO2 canister is a close second. Most of the other accomplishments are wow, really and the effect fades, but the viagra he take again the next night.

The internet. I'd be floored by the amount of things people can sit at home and 'do', and how that's affected our lifestyle.

I'd say the internet and computers for sure. There's nothing more amazing, IMO, in the past few decades. Having said that, I'd probably blow my wad over an Ipod if I'd gone to prison in the 1960's. The last thing I would have seen would have been a record for Bob's sake. I'd be wondering how they got all the bands inside that little case.

Anywho. . .

Torgo?

Anyway, the most amazing new thing, well for sheer WOW I would have to say Movie Technology. Now, a lot of drama/cop/love stories would be the usual actor driven but sitting back and watching Jurassic Park, Matrix or any other computer driven movie would be a jaw dropper.

Something that would really make you feel behind the times I would say Television. You go to jail and there are 12 Channels, you come home 40 years later and there are 400. You can now record your favorite shows, the picture and sound quality are amazing and its all controlled from a small remote. Also the kinds of channels that are out there; Gay, Music, Tech, Westerns, Travel, Weather, Monster, etc etc.

Something that would just make you scratch your head and give up, the iPod. Not having a previous knowledge of computers the fact that something smaller then a pack of cigs could hold 10,000 songs would probably make your head spin. With the way technology has advanced over 4 decades, we have been eased into media storage; Tapes->CDs->MDs->MP3->iPods. Imagine being told your entire Vinyl collection and 9,950 other records could all be listened to on one little device...

I think if I were to suddenly emerge from 1960's bomb shelter, the thing I would find most amusing, perplexing, distrubing as well as awe-inspiring would be cell phones. Not just the phones and their communication potential, but the way we've taken to using and abusing them.

You would step out, for the first time, onto a city street somewhere and there would be all the people talking to themselves, or into little devices attached to their ears or into teeny rectangular boxes...and of course cellies can snap pics, eh.

Second most amazing thing would be Smiley: ducttape....or velcro.

I'm going to run with the scenario that I'm a man who was incarcerated in 1967. Upon my release, does the internet confound me? No, because I had WiFi in my cell and I wrote emails to my congressmen for the last four decades.

Cell phones? Yeah right. Antoine had one packed up his *** for twelve hours so that I could order hits be performed on the outside without leaving the yard.

Cable television and movies? What, you think we didn't have a satellite hook-up back in the joint?

An I-pod? Look here, dammit, I'm a murdering rapist, not a thawed out cave-man. I'm not Rip Van Winkle you disrespecting motherfUcker.

Viagra? Are you questioning my manhood? I will shank you in the shower, if you catch my drift.

Nope, to me, the most mind-boggling, terrifying innovation of the past four centuries has got to be genetic fingerprinting. Having the secrets of DNA unlocked made rape way less enjoyable, and ensured I remained in prison for my entire sentence. Damn you science!

Honestly, I think the weirdest thing would be computers, and video game consoles that we have now. Kids, and adults sitting around playing MMO's on a systems that has "oh em gee you should see the specs on this thing grandpa".. Pretty sure anything involving computer specs would throw a person into a mental breakdown, if they didn't even know computers existed in the first place. Hell, my Dad is 56 and can barely operate a computer.. I couldn't imagine what he'd be like if he'd never heard of a computer and suddenly got access to one.

Advances In Cosmetic Surgery. The fact you can get literally anything done for your looks scares the hell outta me. Whatever happened to ageing gracefully? Now the baby boomers who are seeing their looks go ever so slightly are getting cologin injections and facelifts. Respectful people that I know that weren't getting uglier as they're getting older are getting wrinkle reduction laser surgery. What will happen in another 40 years? Will it be the norm for teen girls to have breast implants? Will there be 70 year olds walking around looking like they're 30? I guess the definition of a cougar may have to change...

Not that it's an "invention" as such, but I'd imagine the most "interesting" thing to someone who has been out of mainstream society since the 60s would be the progression in civil rights issues. They may have read the news and heard the word in jail, but it's another thing to get out and see how differently people relate to one another and in the world. Interracial marriage was only made legal in 1967, and you sure didn't see gay people walking hand in hand down the street. Women were not nearly so widely in positions of authority, and to have a woman with some chance of winning a presidential election would be an odd thing to witness indeed...

Debit cards and the ease of getting credit cards - What? Just sign my name and I can go shopping for a couple grand of stuff?

Second choice is big screen HDTVs. I don't think there were even remote controls back in the 60s, was there?

I would say the Human Genome Project, the project to identify the genes on the human genome, its sequencing, store the imformation, help develop better data analysis tools, help with development of technology in the privates sector and address ethical question arising from their project.

This project, whose implications have not yet been seen, would help find new ways of diagnosing, treating and preventing genetic disorders. It can eventually improve the design of medication used to treat genetic disorders and acquired diseases, such as cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. It can also help to identify environmental triggers for diseases.

They have also used their research to also look at non-human genomes and study bacteria, for example, to use in biomanufacturing to replace toxic, artificially made chemical compounds. In animals, it has helped and will continue to help to develop more disease resistance animals and plants for large scale production and to mitigate potential crop failures as well as to have crops that are drough resistance and don't need pesticide.

They are using genes to understand history and the history of migration by looking at the sequencing of genes. Also, to further advance use of DNA in forensics and other ways of identifying people through their genes.
