Here's some pics of the friends I was talking about last night. I have about a dozen of these hanging out in my yard.

I hate it here. Smiley: mad

Needs a Not Safe for Kao tag for sure!

I have never seen a Garden Spider in NJ but I remember seeing my first one in South Carolina while on vacation. It was about the size of a Bald Eagle and wrote "IMZ GUNNA ATE YOU" in its web.

Scary looking buggers. You have some heavy artillery to defend your home?

Well get yourself a Zippo, tape it to the can and you got yourself a Raid Can +1

Burn and poison!

nice looking spiders, but ehh having them near can be a bit unsettling. sadly your typical RAID or other bug sprays do not work on them. go to your local lawn & garden store with a pic or 2 of the critters and ask what they recommend to deal with them.

Meh, they are gone by the first frost so I shouldn't have to put up with them for too long. Still, I have to get in the garden a prune my perennials soon and I really don't want one of those on me. Ever.

They're spiders. They're eating bugs. They're outside.

What's the problem?

Black widows, brown recluses, sure. Get rid of them.

The problem?

They're big.

They live where I have to put my hands.

I don't like spiders.

I'm taking out my frustration at living in this humid hell hole on them.

I leave them be and really if they mind their bidness, I'll mind mine. I don't have to like them though. Actually I read that they eat their webs every night and spin them anew every morning and I thought that was kinda cool.

yup, that's the same kind I found here, where I told Sick to come home and take down our sword from the wall and kill it. I tried a giant stick before I resorted to that, but the damn thing came charging up the stick. That's about where I flung the stick down and screamed like a girly girl, running into the house.

Tell you what. If and when I get down there, each spring, you and I can go on a spider killing spree with tons of chemicals, steel tipped boots, and a couple maces. The kids can cheer us on from inside the house. Whoever kills the least amount of spiders in a time period buys the beer for the weekend

I don't see too many of those spiders around here. We have lizards, snakes and radioactive deer, though.

I always thought garden spiders were neat. Brightly colored and spin nifty stereotypical Halloween-style webs. Beat the hell out of those grass spiders that just put a giant funnel shaped mess into every corner of the garage.

Gah! holy **** warn me when you are going to link something that is going to make me **** myself like that.

If you need military support for your war against the arachnids, let me know. Airstrikes, flame throwers, small nuclear weapons of indeterminate provinance, etc. You have to kill them all before they start building acre large communal webs and eating people out in the open!

We get raccoons and coyotes because of the canyons that are all around our neighborhood.

Spiders, meh.

Only under protest, and I had nightmares for years afterwards. No, Arachnaphobia the movie is not the root cause of my intense fear and hatred of all things spider. That would be my three up close and personal encounters with poisenous spiders. One of which involved siad spider running across my stomache. It's not just a fear that they are out to get me, I KNOW the little ******* are. That and the monster prescottt tarantulla encounter didn't help.

Death to spiders, adn death to all who support their 8 legged ways!

I'm right there with you Kao. When a snake slithered in front of me on my way to my front door, I didn't bat an eye (ok, maybe I was startled, but not scared). Get me anywhere near any kind of spider and I will lose my ever-lovin' mind.
