I got to work this morning and there was a voice-mail on my phone from Flea who called me on her way to work to let me know. Someone was excited!

Aye, early buzz for Skeletor as the potential replacement. You gotta wonder if Bush really wants to put Chertoff on the stand in front of the Senate though.

Rove and AG in the same month?!

As awesome as this could be, I can't escape a feeling of dread. There has to be a reason these evil bastards are fleeing. This late in the game, it simply has to be something particularly aweful.

What could possibly be so bad that they couldn't wait out one more year? We know these are "company" yes men that will do anything and everything to further The Cause. And I also find it hard to believe that AG is throwing himself on his sword for W.

Anything that can the fear into men like these is bad news for our Country.

Um... They're lining up jobs with the next administration.

Waiting out the last year of a lame duck administration when the VP isn't running isn't exactly a career-booster. Some of them will retire and write books, do the speaking tour thing, etc. Other's are likely already hitching their wagons to one or another campaign. Not exactly strange...

Omega,
Bush let it be known that if anybody wanted to resign they needed to get it done by Labor Day weekend or they would be expected to ride it out until the end of the president's term. That's why Rove & Gonzalez left recently, not because of any sudden administration shake-up.

It was put out that if anybody wanted out it had to happen by Labor Day. Whether that had to do with various bureaucrats wanting to continue wearing white past that date or if it was to provide some continuity until the end of Bush's term, who knows? Regardless, those were the terms that he placed on any individuals who desired to do something else with their lives.

I imagine it was more or less a courtesy thing, giving the next guy in the on-deck circle a chance to implement some changes or policies before they have to clear out of their office for the next administration.

That's the thing about resigning. Afterwards, you go home anyway.

I could believe that it was a matter of courtesy but it's not as if Bush is going to keep your retirement pin and "Good luck" ham if you depart on Sept 5th.
