couldn't it be that the truck was 1/4 mile from the entrance, then the collapsed section of the tunnel, which stated near the entrance, extends back further than where the guy was working.

1. That a survivor they'd interviewed had been working with the men, but had walked back to the truck and the tunnel collapsed right behind him. He stated that his truck was 1/4 of a mile from where they'd been working.

2. The section of tunnel that collapsed extended 2000 feet.

Do the math. It's not hard...

Gee, thanks, Stephen Hawking. No one else realized it was 99.99999% likely they were dead almost instantly.

There is the little matter though, of the PR effect of that one time in a billion you find them months later dead of dehydration, with letters to loved ones scrawled in their own blood asking why no one tried to save them.

Could be. I actually orginially just assumed that the reporter mistated the facts for exactly the reason that if he was 1/4 mile away from them, and the tunnel collapse between them stretched 2000 feet then that pretty obviously placed them in the collapsed area (and you'd think someone might have done the simple math).

But considering the average brainpower of the people actually reporting the news, it's pretty much impossible to tell which. Either way, the reporter herself didn't make the connection that the statements she made as she said them pretty much said that they'd been squished. 2000 feet is a *long* way past 1/4 mile.

:( I liked Tommyknockers, had some good characterization. Main King book I'd avoid is Gerald's Game, that was totally awful.

Bodhi you should also get at least one of his short story/novella compilations.

Miners, who gives a ****. There's like 8 of them or whatever and they're dead or alive. Stop reporting it until that's ascertained and then report that and then shut up. This relentless reporting of insignificant actions and sensationalizing of relatively minor incidences is getting ridiculous. Every ******* paper I've read in the past six months has had some damn blurb about those Virginia Tech dead people and the student's coping and payouts and changes to campus. Why the hell are beating these dead horses? Some guy went off and capped people. They're dead. VT is recovering. That's all we need to know!!

Oh and shut up about 9/11 already, more Americans have died in Iraq and that's also cost the country a lot more money. Never forget? I already did so stop reminding me for God's sake.

Gerald's Game was slightly less interesting than examining shit-stained toilet paper for Rorschach images.

This whole business has to be just tearing up this community. I mean here's these trapped guys, chances at this point of them being alive are neglible, yet, there is that chance, or was for many days. If there is a chance, can you give up the search?...when can you give up the search?

To confound that whole question is the safety of the miners being ask to continue the search. I mean, geesh, 3 more died in the attempt.

Moral dilema if I ever seen one, eh.

Is that the one about the tied up chick?

I think I read that on a flight to Vegas, oddly.

The instant it costs you one penny less to stop than to continue.

There's no dilema. If there was a strange phenomenon that made it impossible to capture video in the area there would have been no search at all.

Seems to me that just makes it more of a moral dilema.

No, because people with morals would make a simple decision based on them. Did you mean ethical?

Sure, I spose I could go with 'ones moral standing, in this instance, could run counter to the ethical desicions that need to be made'.

Morally, the mine owner may very well not give a ****, however, ethics dictate that he do something.

I know, lets have a debate about morals and ethics!!...Smiley: rolleyes

I'm curious as to why you connect tied up chicks with Vegas. Something you want to tell us( and the police) about, Smash?

We can't have a "debate" about anything, you and I. I could explain some things to you, if you like.

All of my bondage adventures in Vegas have been completely legal.
