The Dalai Lama...Follow

#1 Aug 26 2007 at 4:33 PM Rating: Decent
is coming to speak at my university in October. Is it worth going to see him speak, even if I have no interest in Buddhism? I really do not know much about him beyond his Wikipedia article. Just wondering how interesting he was as a person and a speaker.

Tickets are limited, so that's an issue too.

Go. If only for the fact that mentioning it to the right girl in the future might go a long way to getting even a scrub like you laid.

If you go
You will see him

But will you really see him?Smiley: dubious

Get a ticket, and be the guy who keeps trying to ask him about the Kung Fu movies he's starred in.

He'll like thatSmiley: grin

I'd go see him. Really, I'd probably see any world spiritual or political leader if I had the chance to see them speak in a controlled setting (i.e. not me in a mob of 15k people).

Go.

I've seen his speeches before, and he is an amazing speaker.

It's worth it, even if you don't have an interest in Buddhism.

He's fun and has a great sense of humor, all things considered. I'd totally hit it.

Go. For sure.

I went to see him three times. Twice to Kalachakras in the Indian Himalaya, in Spiti and in Leh, and once in Auckland NZ.

An excellent experience all three times.

He's just such a nice bloke.

You need to ask yourself:

When in my life will I ever again have to opportunity to pinch the nipple of the world's foremost passivist?

I think you can see what needs to be done now.

I'd see him. While the danger of learning something new is definitely real, you can avoid that by texting the whole time.

Or shouting "But is it really?" after each statement he makes.

I'd go and see him in a heartbeat, great guy, great mind, great philosophy. Full of win.

Definitely. Jokes aside, he's an interesting religious leader; in that you don't have to be any specific religion to see truth in what he's saying. The second thing that makes him an amazing religious leader is his fascination with science.

He has said before that if under testing, a Buddhist belief is found to be false, that belief must be changed. How many other religious leaders have you heard say that??? He has sponsored quite a big of neurological studies about the effects of meditation and mindfulness practice that are extremely interesting.

Or asked to speak at neuroscience conventions
