Since the forum seems to be slumping this Friday afternoon I thought I'd share a local eatery here that I enjoy. I'm sitting here trying to think of dinner plans for Saturday night and the Old Louisville Inn always crosses my mind. So how about you share some dives, pubs, or nice places around home you enjoy?

BTW the OLI's food is 100x better than their awful website

Flea and I once ate at a place in the city with an awning reading "ORLY'S". Giggling at the obvious "O RLY?" connection* was easily the best part of the visit. God, did that place suck.

So.. um... don't go there.

*Yes, I assume it was named ofter some dude named Orly. Still, you couldn't NOT make the connection in your mind

It's not local, but I remember a place in Jantar, near the Baltic coast in Poland, called "Gospoda psy(sp?) Mlynie" that easily had the best fish I have ever tasted.

Like I say, the Baltic is a freezer. You don't swim in it, you keep food in it. And it has some very good food.

I like to eat here.

The building is so seriously fUcked up, you feel rat-***** when you arrive, but after a few pints and an excellent Steak Pie, it starts to look perfectly OK.

That's awesome. There are some nights where I couldn't get in there sober let alone walking around drunk.

The Sunset Grill, Allston MA.

Foods above average, but beer selection is off the hook. 112 beers on tap and over 300 microbrews makes this my favorite local bar to get pissed at.

Smiley: bowdown Word.

Although I do still freak at the American "Sweet & Savoury on the same plate" thing.

DF did persuade me to try Grape Jelly on my wheat toast to accompany the extravaganza of dead pig products. It merely confirmed my view that this is plain wrong.

I have an abiding memory of the breakfast buffet at a Mediaeval Abbey in England.

One section was the cereals (for children and hippies), one section was fresh fruits (for athletes and toothless geriatrics), and cooked items (Bacon, Eggs, Suasages, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Fried Bread, Black Pudding etc. . . - for real Englishmen).

To my horror, DF had Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, pineapple, melon and orange segments. On the same fUcking plate!

Just wrong Smiley: oyvey

2 of my favorite local eateries are Sonomas if you're looking for date worthy dining. The ambiance is amazing for a dinner for two. Not a place I'd ever take the kiddies.

For weekend breakfasts out with the family I adore the Mischievous Chef located half a mile from our house. Summertime you sit out on a huge porch overlooking a beautiful garden. The kitchen is the size of my closet, but they still get your food out fresh and hot. And while you wait for your seat, you can browse the odd store, Country Mischief. They have the best Belgium Waffles ever!!!

We have a nice Sushi place within walking distance of my house. I know the fish monger there so I patronize them quite frequently. I think because of the design of Sushi shops that they are easy to feel comfortable and grow attached to them.

But. . . But. . . DSD! You're near Bahstahn

Best Lobster I ever ate was right there.

And as Baystate Healthcare was picking up the tab, I got deliciously Shitfaced

(and, ISTR, laid by an impressionable yet busty young nurse who was with us)

How else are you supposed to cover them in syrup? One plate to drool on them all and in the syrup bind them!

This place is a great little surf themed Mexican food place. Reminds me of my misspent youth.

In San Diego, outdoor eating is always nice.

Near Phoenix, Arizona, there is good steak to be had.

In Beverly Hills, a cool garlic themed restaurant is surprisingly affordable. There's also one in San Francisco, which I have not experienced.

In Riverside, California (east of LA), there is a great sandwich place.

I've been to the Stinking Rose in SF and I adore it. Some of the best food is to be had there, but you definitely have to like garlic. Fortunately I looove it

OMG! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that place. Their meatball sandwich and pastrami sandwich are TO DIE FOR. Good burgers too.

Gotta be careful going there sometimes with the meth addicts that hang out there sometimes.

Apparently they just changed their bread. It was the best sandwich bread on Earth. They closed when they ran out of bread - IIRC they baked in on the premises each morning (I think they still do) and that was it for the day.

I never had a burger there - next time I'm in town I'll have to try one.

Ya, when I arrived in Riverside in 1996, University Drive was really bad. By the time I left in 2000 it had improved, to a degree, and I guess generally fine in the daytime. But it's been a while and things like that go back and forth.

It's pretty busy at lunchtime but the line goes quickly. The parking is a bit tricky. Usually I can find a place in back somewhere.

Boa's in Santa Monica served one of the best steaks I've ever had.

That and I always enjoyed Pho 2006. Oddly enough, Pho 2006 doesn't have a website.
