I am quite sure none of you questions how I feel about it, but let me go on record as saying congratulations, Barry, on a job well done. To the new home run king, Smiley: boozing Cheers.

Glad I was watching, and kudos to Mike Bacsik, who just became a living trivia answer.

Why? Did Clemens win 400 games too, or something?

I will agree that Bonds is/was one of the most feared hitters of all time. It takes a special skill to be able to hit a ball like that. His hand/eye coordination is just awesome.

With that being said though, there is absolutely no way he would have broken the record if not for steriods. Therefore, in my eyes, the record is tainted.

He admitted to taking steriods. He admitted to taking the "cream" and the "clear" which were found to be steriods during the Balco investigation. Even though he claims he didn't know they were steriods, which is total BS, he still took them.

I agree with the people saying he should have no place as the new home run king because of the roids. If he could do it free and clear, good on him.

Congrats...but his record needs a '*' next to it.

Some of you people clearly need to go back and read up on your constitutional law.

That and the rules in place at the time in Major League Baseball.

Yay! I got even more games this year. F'ucking ticket prices are the real scandal in sports, though.

Barry Bonds is the new home run king, and the only man who can positively affirm whether or not he actually took steroids (besides Barry himself) is sitting in a Federal Corrections Facility for refusing to testify.

A great day for sports, all right. Smiley: rolleyes

Baseball history is rife with scandals, cheats, scalawags and scoundrels. I don't know why everyone is acting like a sullied virgin over this.

I don't understand why THIS has people clutching their pearls while practically no one went into a maidenly faint when the story broke ten years ago about other players - McGwire, Canseco, Sosa, and on and on.

Bonds apparently didn't start taking steroids until after McGwire, in particular, was given a hero's parade - when the guy was obviously juiced. I'm not saying Bonds was then justified in jumping on the 'roid wagon, but I do think it's understandable in context.

If anyone collected baseball cards in the late 80's, you would get an idea of how much these guys grew over the next decade. Of course, if they lifted weights each off season then it could account for some of the gains. But a funny thing happens whrn you get to the 1996/1997 cards. Suddenly their necks disappeared....

Good for Bonds. Maybe if he wasn't such an asshat, more people would actually care.

I actually picked up a partial season ticket plan for the Penguins this season. I'm fairly excited about that. Oh yeah and fuck Bonds Smiley: lol

I, for one, had pretty much the same reaction to the achievements of McGwire, Canseco and Sosa as I had for those of Barry Bonds.

When was Roger Clemens linked to steroids? Yeah, I know he's old and still pitching, albeit not with the same velocity he had when younger. He's a very different pitcher now than he was way back when. Other than pitching well at age 45, what evidence is there linking him to 'roids? Now, I've never been a big fan of Clemens' but he's always been known as a fanatic about conditioning and working out. Nolan Ryan pitched well into his mid-40's too. In fact he was still striking out almost three times as many batters as he walked when he was 43. Was he juiced too?
