But you could set it all up and then turn into Basil Fawlty. It'd be fun!

You could make Hannah wait tables.

Hmmm, that might meld nicely with my current plan to turn her into a pick-pocket street urchin...she'll just have to wear an apron.

Nexa, have you ever considered running a bed and breakfast?

Yes, but I fear change and have no money. Also: just buying a house was a big step for me since I've traditionally avoided anything that might make me feel "trapped". Of course, I have this kid now and all so I can't exactly go running off all over the place anyway.

I do, occasionally, still threaten to run away and join the circus though.

I think that once it was set up, I'd get bored with the whole bed and breakfast thing. I'd have fun designing the rooms and doing the planning/organization, but then want to move on...as I do with most jobs, haha. I'm a fantastic planner/organizer...if only I could get a job doing that. One of those tv shows should hire me.

:D

Sounds like you would enjoy working for a Design or Construction firm in the project management area. They go from one project to another. Plus, as they are a traditionaly male heavy field, they often will often take a female who is less experienced. You could probably get in the door as an assistant to a project manager.

I bet I could. Smiley: wink

haha, honestly though, I like working in academia...I'd just have about five jobs at once if I could. I'm certifiable. If I were independantly wealthy, I'd also have about 5 undergraduate degrees.

I think Nexa covered it all, but additionally folks from out of town like yardsales and more largely scaled salvage sales from big businesses. We have a place like that downtown where you can get all kinds of furniture/bathroom stuff/knick knacks etc. Kept my relatives busy for at least 2 hours.

I would be horrified at being dragged to a rummage sale. Sorry, but "folks from out of town" are not a homogeneous group.

The best career advice I was ever given was to steer clear of any job with the words "assistant" or "to" in the title

Good advice.

Yeah, find someone to hire me for a better paying postion that's more in line with my skills and experience and also maybe even *slightly* intellectually challenging and I'd be all over that. Right now, I'm stuck being a ******* glorified secretary and taking out 8k in student loans a year until I'm finished grad school.

I'm not bitter.

Smiley: glare

It's becoming clear that I'm just going to have to sleep my way up the corporate ladder. Now...to start working for a corporation...

How's one go about doing that? JD?

Hmm, time to hire an executive search firm for my new non profit that teaches victims of gay bashing to read.

Really? I sort of got the impression that any marginally skeevy, highly annoying lost cause held a certain attraction for you...

Oh, and I forgot, I always have a basket of snacks in the guest bedroom. If I get hungry in the evening somewhere (or in the morning before folks are up for breakfast), I'm never comfortable just going down to the kitchen and rumaging around...especially if I know they'll be cooking breakfast when they get up. I include things like granola bars, packets of nuts or sunflower seeds, trail mix, fresh fruit, nutrigrain bars, etc.

Lastly, it's nice to find out if you have coffee or tea (or hot cocoa) drinkers, and have those items in the coffee basket section.

Most of my guests are just happy to have the space. I say a warm hello to them in the morning, make them omelettes, and then pretty much play it by ear. Itend to like flexibility both as a guest and a host.

When I'm at someone else's house, I hate being treated like a guest. I love my aunt, who just goes about her day and I can tag along if I want, or ask to go somewhere if I want. If she has something to do that doesn't involve me, that's cool too.
