You rub Alla the right way, the genie pops, and you get a wish..but only one, and there is a limited selection of wishful items to choose from.

Pick your wish

Turn your age-timeclock back 15 years:10 (11.1%)
Add ten years to your life - Guaranteed!:1 (1.1%)
Have a three-hour tea/coffee/beer chat with the person of your choice (dead or alive):3 (3.3%)
Have one round of sex with the person of your choice (only alive please).:12 (13.3%)
A million tax-free dollars:39 (43.3%)
A 'true' photographic memory:18 (20.0%)

Don't really see it that way
But if you could give 'em each one wish
How much do you wanna bet
They'd wish success for themselves and their friends
And that would include lots of money
I'll take the million.

It would be tough to turn down the million, but I'd take the memory.

This is the one I picked. I Think it was the impetus for this post. NASA just launched The Pheonix, an explorer gadget, to Mars. It's suppposed to land..softly..in the polar area of the planet and be able to drill down to 4 feet for a sample or take a more lateral sample, just scraping off the top layer. It be looking for ice and water. The phoenix will then be able to analyze it there and send back the results.

If I had a true photographic memory I'm sure I could find a way to easily make more than $1 million with it. Vegas/Rain Man comes to mind, but I'm sure there are many more creative ways to do it.

Sadly 15 years is not enough for me or I'd have done that! Say, Make me 18 all over? Yes!
A million is not what is used to be when I was a kid but its better than nothing! I took the money

Almost picked the three hour chat, but then I thought "what if they turned out to be a complete *******?" Now, if s/he wasn't an ***, then it would be awesome, but meeting one's academic idols is just setting up for failure.

And what's ten more years if I don't have the money? I'll take the million.

One could extract from this, that you think life is less worth living without a lot of money.

...or, that millionaires have more worthwhile lives.

Nah, it's just a hell of a lot more fun with a lot of money.

A cool, tax free mill could pay off all my debt, and probably some for my familiy. Then I wouldn't feel trapped in my job any longer.

If those last ten years are in excruciating pain as my old and decrepit figure rots away then I'd much rater take what is necessary to live in the moment, and make the best of things while I'm still spry enough to enjoy them. Ultimately, I want to be able to relax; that is perhaps the most encompassing goal for me. The penultimate stage to relaxation is having enough money upon which to live and not be indepted up to my eyeballs.

If I had a million dollars (tax free) I could

- Pay off school loans
- Pay off most of the rest of my schooling
- Buy, and fully pay for, some peice of property in the city (not much, but I neither need nor like lots of space)
- Allocate half of the rest to spending money, school, living essentials
- Relax and study (part of relaxing)
- Save the rest for a rainy day.

I abhor the economic system of the U.S. I think that capitalism glorifies work as an end in itself, whereas work should simply be viewed as an unpleasant necessary means to an end (relaxation), but I still live in it, and if I had a magical wish that would allow me to completely circumvent it, focus my energy toward academic study, and eschew working altogether, then I'd take that in a heartbeat over ten more years of probably middle class retirement.

If you are an intelligent person who will spend money wisely, then your life will certainly be more worthwhile than a simmilarly intelligent person who does not have money. You honestly think that money can't buy happiness in the United States of America? Of course it can buy happiness; money just doesn't buy happiness for people who do not value it. If someone wins the lottery and spends it on 1000 garbage cans of cocaine then that is a commentary about a fucking moron who doesn't value a practical means to an end, and it is not a commentary about the failure of money to secure inner peace or something. Of course the reverse is possible, of course money is not necessary for happiness, but neither is the absence of money. Having money can be sifficient for happiness for an individual who is responsible with it, even if it is not necessary.

It's not like I enjoy that, and given a real magic wish, I would probably just change society so that this is not the case anymore, but I'm much more likely to be able to circumvent the system with one million dollars than I am to convince people that working is a bad thing in itself and done purely for itself.

Memo

To: Nobby

From: Dread lOrD Kaolian

Subject: Wishes

*******************************************

Dear Mr. Nobby,

Due to the aggressive nature of this years batch of wombats, we were unable to keep them out of the turnip patch. You can imagine the damage. At this time, Allakhazam's is unable to offer you A Turnip of Your Own.

I apologize for any inconvienence this may cause you. We here at the Magical Realm strive for satisfaction and would, very much, like the opportunity to make this up to you. Perhaps you'd like a Shark with Lazers of Your Very Own, or a t-shirt?

Sincerely,
Kao - Genie PA

From: Nobby

Subject: Re. Wishes

*******************************************

Dear Mr. Elinda and Little Miss Kaolian,

All your w0mbats are belong to us.

Stuff your lazer-sharks up your less flaccid orifices and give me my turnip, or I will say 'Snerrip' and 'squeeg' when you least expect it.

My imaginary lawyers (Niobia, Niobia and H R Clinton) await my instruction.

Huggles

Sincerely,
Nobby - Genie Rapist, raconteur and cnut

Yeah but let's say you're going to die in car wreck in october '07. Adding ten years would mean you die in '17. Becoming 15 years younger just means you'll die in '07 but you'll just die young. Both options are stupid anyways.

For thos n00bs that want a poxy million dollars.

Go back 15 years and buy shares in Apple and/or Google, invent your own 'Myspace', search engine, messenger application and place a $10 bet on the next 10 years superbowl results.

With the profits, you could buy a bajillion turnips!!

Think of that. Mmmmm.

She said to turn *my* age time-clock back. I assume that means that I am 15yrs physically younger, not that I travel in time back to 1992.
