What I find intriguing about Matt Damon is that, while a great actor, his performances make him seem not quite human. As if he knows what humans are, knows about humanity but he's not entirely there yet. Which serves him well in many of his roles. Jason Bourne - he's barely human; more a re-programmed killing machine. Tom Ripley - psychotic murderer, 'nuff said. Loki - angel, duh. Veering off to the more 'human' roles he can convey quite a bit of depth. Even in his early roles, like School Ties as the obnoxious rich kid you can tell he's trying too hard to be popular, to be the BMOC. And of course, Will Hunting, he's a study of contradiction - always trying to prove how wrong everyone is about him, even himself.
