WASHINGTON (CNN) — Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo’s campaign stood by his assertion that bombing holy Muslim sites would serve as a good “deterrent” to prevent Islamic fundamentalists from attacking the United States, his spokeswoman said Friday.

“This shows that we mean business,” said Bay Buchanan, a senior Tancredo adviser. “There’s no more effective deterrent than that. But he is open-minded and willing to embrace other options. This is just a means to deter them from attacking us.”

...

“If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina,” Tancredo said. “That is the only thing I can think of that might deter somebody from doing what they would otherwise do. If I am wrong, fine, tell me, and I would be happy to do something else. But you had better find a deterrent, or you will find an attack.”

When arguing that he is wrong don't bring up the word 'crazy' or he will gouge your motherf'ucking eyes out and cut out your tongue, the man is not to be f'ucked with.

He's saying that another attack on us would result in the bombing of Muslims holy sites to keep them from attacking. It's a "shoot us and we'll shoot your mom" kind of bluff.

Yes, maybe we could attack Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. It'll be great.

Think its just a bluff or would he do it?

Given that Tancredo has roughly equal odds to become president as my cat, whether or not it's a bluff is kind of moot.

So is your cat running and how's its campaign going if so?

His cat is Fred Thompson, so not great but he might actually declare after Joph changes the liter box (that is if he raised enough money to afford the box change).

Hell, if that were the case we might as well bomb the fuCk out of Bethlehem and Jerusalem too. That would get rid of that other problem in the Middle East.

Our involvement in the Middle East - including occupying "holy" Muslim land and installing dictators - is one of the contributing factors as to why we get attacked in the first place.

People don't blow themselves up because it's fun. They feel they have a reason. Yeah, Tancredo, bombing holy land is a sure fire way of deterring terrorism. They only hate us because we're rich, free, and give women rights. So if we show them we mean business by using deadly force, they'll all bow down and give up and say they're sorry, and there will be peace on earth and ice cream for everyone.

Gonna second Joph's statement, with a twist: Comparing the words of a "doesn't have a chance in hell" candidate to one of the two forerunners for the Dem nomination is a bit out there.

Next you'll be quoting Ron Paul or something... ;)

I thought they hated us because Jesus came to America to take it from the dinosaurs?

Didn't say he had no chance in hell. I said that barring Hillary doing something incredibly stupid, she will be the Dem party's nominee. There's a difference between not winning because you're so far down the pack that there's no way your party will ever nominate you and not winning because there's another candidate who's essentially been groomed and picked by the powers that be.

Clinton *is* the heir apparent as far as those with the control in the Dem party are concerned. Obama wont lose because he's a horrible candidate. He'll lose because the deck is stacked for Clinton...

Tancredo will lose because of who he is. Period. Little to no name recognition. No significant ideas. No significant support from either the party or the people. He'd be a bad choice for Republican candidate no matter who else was running against him. Thus, making a big deal out of anything he says as though it has some significance in terms of his chances is silly. He can be safely ignored as a fringe candidate IMO.

I'm astounded that he kept the response under 4 paragraphs. Seriously he had to work to keep that one short.

I got your joke Joph. Sadly, what you call a joke, someone else will inevitably believe is a serious argument. Isn't the first time...

Heck. Most of the political positions held by liberals on this board are based on jokes someone else said that they took seriously. If that wasn't the case, then I'd certainly have no problem just letting those slide.
