Clearly guilty of thought-crime.

While well intended and all, this about as far from Constitutional as you can get. Stupid thing to do.

Well, being creepy isn't actually against the law.

Lynching people is though, which is too bad. I think it'd be the perfect deterrent for this kind of guy.

Deterrent from what? Saying things out loud or thinking them?

Well then I'm sure parents will be completely relieved that he only wants to cuddle with their 3 year old, if its consensual...

I don't see why people have such a big problem with people like him. He's no more dangerous to young children than any other random stranger you see out in public. In fact, he's less dangerous because he has spoken out to the public that he does not do anything.

Imo, a decent analogy would be this: Somebody enjoys looking at and getting off to guro. Why the hell should anyone care what type of stuff floats your boat as long as you're able to control yourself 100%.

Reading about this earlier in the week I recall seeing that he had traveled to some cenral American country and "cuddled" with children, or something. I'd look for a link but I'm afraid to google "dude admits to kid-touching".

Honestly I think his words and actions on the interwebs are a cry for help. He's looking to commit community-assisted suicide.

Well as long as the media report so objectively and without irrational scaremongering, I think we'll be fine

You know, he hasn't actually done anything illegal. It's debatable that he's even done anything morally wrong, but if he moved into my area, I'd probably still shoot him for being a sick freak. Better safe than sorry.

He violated a restraining order.

Weak, maybe, but still illegal.

Well, I'm happy that law enforcement was able to invent something to arrest a guy who hasn't done anything illegal for. Next we can move on to putting restraining orders on anyone who has ever written erotica involving anything illegal, and then arrest them for living.

I didn't really read this whole story, but it seems like 'they' would have better over-all success by trying to have the guy committed. Perhaps he could then get the pyschological help he really needs.

What good is arresting him gonna do? How long are they really going to be able to hold him on a restraining order violation?

In the UK, the government introduced Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, commonly known as ASBOs. They can slap them on anyone, for pretty much anything that is deemed "anti-social", and it works like a restraining order.

So some kids get ABSOs that prevent them from hanging around a certain block of flats, one woman got an ASBO for opening her door in her undies, some people are forbidden to hang out with specified people etc...

It sounds silly, until you learn that breaking an ASBO is a criminal offense. So if that woman opens the door in her undies again, its a criminal offense, and she could theoretically go to jail. For breaking the Asbo, of course, not for opening her door in her undies Smiley: rolleyes

Just giving you a heads-up, since I don't doubt this innovative and legally creative invention will make its appearance on your side of the pond one day.

That was after the fact. There was no legal basis (that I can see) for that restraining order in the first place, he hadn't done anything even close to illegal to warrant it. They're created a restraining order based on him speaking about what he likes to THINK about. I like to think about blowing things up, are you going to throw me in jail for being near a chemical store?

He's still a sick person, but what they're doing is just wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I never said they were right.

But they'll justify the restraining order as "protecting the kids", and his arrest as "breaking the restraining order"

I agree its stupid and counterproductive, but I think thats the legal basis behind it.

Look, if he had said all of these things and then molested some child, everyone would have sued the state. They put forth a restraining order and he breaks it.

I think CA handled it correctly. As far as I know, you don't have to commit a crime to have a restraining order filed against you. It's not like they put him in jail for it.
