Honestly, I don't care if the guy shot was saving kittens from a fire or giving anthrax to Hitler. I'm more curious about this complete silence regarding the fact that the House of Representatives have taken it upon themselves to effectively commute a prison sentence.

It plays to sympathies and fears. It's a populist move that aims directly at the Republican base. Who's going to criticize it. It's not like it was preventing a retarded 16 year old from being executed, or commuting the 40 year sentence of some kid who brokered an LSD deal at a dead show. All this guy did was shoot the bad guy, just like in the movies. Clearly his sentence is too harsh, he should have just been dragged into the Capitan's office and commanded to surrender his badge and gun. Then after he shot the swarthy Mexican drug kingpin in Juarez, he'd get them back with a commendation.

Nobody puts John McClain in jail, now do they?
