.....well besides Ingmar Bergman dying yesterday, Smiley: frown

The Harry chatter is dying down, for this year.

Next up...

Stardust - It opens this weekend, and has thus far, received some good reviews. I can't believe all the big names that got together for this fairytale.

Fantasy is SO in. Smiley: cool

I'm going to see Arlo Guthrie this next weekend so will not likely get to the theatre. Anyone planning on seeing it?

This is one of my favorite books to read. When I first heard they were making it into a movie I was both excited and nervous. I really hope they dont fuck it up. Trailor looks promising though.

I have seen the commercials for this movie, and I am very excited about it, but I am ashamed to admit I had no idea it was a book first!

Thanks, DSD, I'll have to look into that!

I'm going to have to pick up this book and read it. I've been intrigued to read this one, but never have. Guess I will now!

I'm torn. I know Hollywood can't get their hands a story without changing it and from the trailer it looks as if they did a lot of that, and I'm ok with that, to a point, but it looks as if the story lost a lot of its straight forwardness for holywood coyness. And the worst part of it (and the rewrite I can't understand if they did it) is it looks like they rewrote the story to remove the central character of the fairy and combined her with Star.

Yeah, I just looked up the book (written by Neil Gaimen, how did I miss this?!) and it sounds like they've turned the main character's love interest into the Star for the movie.

I haven't read the book, but in one of the trailers I saw, the main guy that crosses the wall, definately was hooked up with a girl, that wasn't Gweneth.

I avoid disappointment, I think I'll not read the book. Smiley: smile

Pfft. You can enjoy them both you know.

A good movie is a good movie. A good book is a good book.

True, few good books translate into good films, but they're not exclusive. (E.g. LoTR, Manhunter, From Russia With Love; all changed the plot of the original meisterwerk into different but effective films)

Unless you wanna get all Aristotelian and check the action faitfully follows real time, in which case you're stuck with Jack Bauer.

The book is worth reading. I think they will both be good, just in different ways and as different stories.

Gweneth?
Paltrow.

She plays the fallen star, or I'm assuming "Star" as referenced in this thread.

God, I'm such a space. Clair Danes eh. I've always, and forever been mixing them two up.

I'll probably pick the book up as well. Since I finished Harry Potter I'm lacking in books right now.

I think buzz is created when people talk about movies, not when you decide one looks interesting. I haven't even heard of this movie.

It has Claire Danes in it Neph. It has to be a massive success now. I mean look at the Mod Squad.

I can see that.

But, in my opinion, Claire Danes is much better than Paltrow.

I haven't read the book, but I didn't like the way Claire Danes was in the previews. She seemed miscast.
