Me too..

Just my Sorc, her horse and my good friend Xbpuqrtud the goldseller.

(>>Purly<<...look me up. I've been thinking about starting the shadowhound quest, but first have to figure out how to get to Kojan)

I switched srevers to join a guild I liked. Unfortunately, after the merges occur, I'll be on the PvE server that doesn't absorb Hilsbury.
Dummy, is Snorre back around yet?

The other server I have toons on is Flamehammer...which will be merged with Hilsbury if/when the servers merge. It'll be kinda nice to be able to pull out my healer if needed.

LOL, okay, I remember that now. Typically unless someone's name is almost identical to their Alla name, I only have about a 15% chance of remembering who in the hell they are.

Speaking of flipping, did you see the Meneldor drama llama make its run through the official PvMP forums?

As far as I know Snorre isn't back, but I don't know for sure.

Also, I have a young sorcerer on Flamehammer, named Darwin, and originally it was stated that Flamehammer and Hilsbury would be merged into the same server, but that's changed. When the merge does happen it's going to look like this. Which works for me, because I'm on Targonor with that one toon on Flamehammer. I actually deleted my Hilsbury toons, because I wanted the space for alts.

Hey though, maybe I'll see you on your Flamehammer toon after the merge.

Last time I logged into SC was to sell all my engineering mats and everything on my character in order to give DSD and SK the money they needed to get lvl 60 epic mounts. Then they decide to re-roll priests on the horde side.

They owe me plat for the one!

Yup, leave it to Ioph to cut to the quick of all that BS and point out the hypocrisy.

As for me name, well I think we can all agree 'Gitslayer' is a ******* name. I keep it because it is what I have always been named here. I certainly wouldn't name a character that now.

What were the main complaints regarding Vanguard? I hung out quite a bit on their forums while it was being developed, not sure what the major problems would've been though. My big complaints is that they seemed to want to make aspects of it as irritating as in EQ, re: pain-in-the-*** of deaths, travel, inventory.

Ironically I couldn't hold out for launch and starting playing WoW, and pretty much forgot about Vanguard.

It was incomplete upon release, with areas unpopulated by mobs and npcs. There were serious performance issues. There's a littany of other things probably, but I didn't experience any of them having started to play three months after release. The only problem I've had with the game is the abysmal player population.

However, if you considered travel in EQ irritating you probably wouldn't dig VG. The world is huuge, with two 'U's, and teleportation is limited, although you do get your first mount by level ten. Death isn't harsh in my opinion and inventory, well, not even sure how that was irritating in EQ.

Oh let me count the ways...(at least up till I stopped playing)

8 bag slots

maximum 10-slot bags

8 bank slots (didn't get expanded to 16 until...sometime after PoP I believe and you had to buy expansion pack to get those extra 8 slots)

Encumberance due to weight, including coin

The only cheap 10-slot bags were vendor bags for the bazaar, which weighed 100 stone each...it was always fun to forget you had your vendor bags on you, leave the bazaar and realize you couldn't move

Weight-reduction bags (leatherfoot haversacks) cost a mint and required eons of foraging to make. I know this because I made hundreds of thousands of plat selling them and spent countless hours foraging dire wolf fur tufts rather than buying them from the botters in the bazaar.

Alternatively if you had a GM tradeskill trophy you could summon 100% WR bags that you couldn't give away, which were no-rent so God help you if you forgot you were carrying them and logged (or the servers went down.)

WR bags didn't address the issue of coin weight...nothing did.

It wasn't that bad unless you were a tradeskiller...I had all 7 tradeskills maxed, however, and it hurt.

Major towns have what's known as a "Fell Pool" which looks like a basin/fountain filled with red water (or very fake looking blood). There's one in Bree in the poorer district of town (and it should show on the map when you're in town). At lvl 10+, you can click on it to enter "Monster Play" as an Orc, Warg or Spider in the Ettenmoors. You can also enter the Ettenmoors at lvl 40+ as a regular PC.

The Ettenmoors is where the PvP takes place -- "Creeps" (monsters) against "Freeps" (Free People) fighting for control of five fortifications in the zone. I won't bore the forum with all the details but, if you're interested, here's a couple threads off the official forums to get you started.

What is Monster Play? (Article by Turbine)
Monster Player Starter Guide (Tips to get started)
Black Book of the Ettenmoors (Quest Walkthoughs, etc)

"Keep flipping" is when you get a bunch of Freeps to all log onto monster characters, they overthrow all the fortifications (and earn Destiny Points) then all go back onto their Freeps and roll the fortifications again to earn tokens for gear. A lot of "full time" monster players are asking for some sort of timer to prevent flipping between Freep/Creep so quickly or some other solution.

I logged onto WoW about a month or so ago. I managed to get on all 25 (or so) of the various characters I had spread over 5 servers. About the only one I saw on that I recognized was Aegis. It took me all of a few hours to become completely bored with it again and cancelled my subscription. About the only reason I tried it out was I scavanged another PC together and wanted to see how it would perform. It did admirably, I think with the 3GB of RAM and the 512MB video card, it should be able to handle most games out now.

I'd still like to try Vanguard out, I'm just too busy right now. Perhaps in a couple months I'll give it a shot if it hasn't folded by then.

On another note, I got to meet up with an old guildmate who was in Denver for a work thing last weekend. That was pretty cool. We played EQ in the same guild for the better part of 3 years, and tried out WoW together for a few months. It's always interesting to place a face with the on-line persona after so many years of interaction. He's a pretty good dude.

Anyways, made me think of Allanois. Too bad I won't be able to make it. The boss will be overseas during that time and we can't both be gone at the same time. I guess there's always next year.

----------------------------------------------------------------

the game died when all the powergamers blasted pastthe low and mid level game and the grouping came to a screeching halt.

no grouping in a game designed fo grouping = EQ and EQ2. a dead low and mid level game with a very low population of high end toons to keep paying the bills.

only Vanguard didnt have a high level game built yet. so, no low level game+no high level game = mass exodus by both the casual and power gamers. they went from 200,000 acounts to less than 20,000 accounts in less than 3 months. most of it happeining in the last month adn a half.

its a ghoste town now like EQ1 and EQ2 is in the low and mid level game. unfortunatly, unlike EQ1 and EQ2, there was no top end game to pay the bills while they fix it.

fubar. thats what you get for banking on grouping content. and empty game. better have some raids ready to go if you want an income because the casual players justare not going to stick it out anymore. they dont have to.

There were lots of lootable WR bags. They might not have all been 10-slot/giant bags/100% WR bags but there was a ton of weight reduction bag options. You could get a 10% WR bag as early as in the Warrens.
Quote:

There were coin weight reduction purses in Kunark, Velious and Ykesha. Maybe in other expansions as well.
