A lot of you have seen my previous posts announcing that I was going to be a daddy. Well, as of late my girl has been abesolutely miserable. She's 7 weeks pregnant now, and she is constantly mentioning severe abdominal pain, being sore all over, being unable to eat pretty much anything, etc. She is now getting a fever.

She has no health insurance yet (she is getting state insurance in about a week once we have the last of the paperwork), and we were unable to get her an appointment to get her first prenatal exam until the 1st of August.

According to her, this is much, much more painful than either of her two other pregnancies. I'm still brand new with this whole daddy-to-be thing. I'm terrified its an ectopic pregnancy.

It sucks because all of the symptoms I can find besides spotting are the exact same symptoms as a normal pregnancy. Thats the one symptom she doesn't have as well.

I was hoping some mom can give me some re-assurance. Anyone? Please tell me I'm just over-reacting.

Anything with a fever and you should go see the doctor.

Hmmm, I wish I could reassure you. The severe abdominal pain is worrisome. If she having any spotting and the abdominal pain I would go to the hospital...just my two cents.

Hope she's ok.

She hasn't been spotting. For now I made her promise that if she does, or if she feels feint to call an ambulance immediately.

She's been 'backed up' for a few days and is trying to re-assure me that she thinks that may be the reason.

I'm just hoping everything is ok.

I wish the damn clinic could see her sooner.

I agree, some of those symptoms you have to get checked out. Even if it turns out to be nothing, you don't want something bad to happen to her because you were afraid it might be nothing.

Constipation is a normal side effect of pregnancy and prune juice (while not pleasant to taste I think) is safe to have while pregnant. Make sure she's drinking plenty of water as well to keep things "moving along".

If she has a real fever, of more than a couple degrees above normal, don't ***** around and just go to the ER...it's not worth it.

It sucks I'm stuck at work... I'm gonna take a long lunch and just make sure her fever isn't too bad. She said the pain isn't intolerable... and from what I've been able to find the pain for a tubal pregnancy is bad enough to be near unable to stand.

I want to find out if we already have the insurance or not - if we do I might just take her to the ER before the visit to soothe my nerves (if she'll let me).

Hate to say, but all of these things are jut part of the joy of pregnancy.

Except fever. Fever is bad.

Take her to an urgent care facility, but doesn't the ER have to take you even if you don't have insurance? Think about all them illegals and use the system.

Like the other Femmes have said, anything with a fever in an early pregnancy is worrisome. An ectopic pregnancy is very painful and has been described as more excruciating than appendicitis.

Except for the fever, it sounds like a normal pregnancy. I would reiterate what the others are saying and have her get checked out. Even without health insurance, does she have a PCP she could go to? Also, get insurance anyway you can. She needs to have monthly check ups to ensure both she and the baby are doing ok with or without these concerns. You don't fuck around with stuff like this.

edit I missed seeing she was getting health insurance in a week. Still, bite the bullet and get her checked out. Youll never forgive yourself nor will she if something is wrong and you hesitated due to lack of money

Just had her check, her temp is 101 atm.
I think she has insurance via the state, but we just have to get papers in. Or we won't have it til the papers are in, i'm not sure.

There is an urgent care center about 2 doors down from where we live, I'm gonna beg her to go over lunch I think... thanks for helping ladies.. I appreciate this.

guilt trip her if you have to. I hate to say it, but sometimes we women pass off things like its nothing to others, when in reality we're really hurting. And if it has to do with someone other than ourselves, i.e. a baby, use that as a way for her to see shes not going for herself, but her unborn child.

Get her to a doctor, NOW. Fever with abdominal pain could indeed signal an ectopic pregnancy, which could be DEADLY. Do NOT f'uck around with this. Go now.

If you're talking about Medicaid, it should cover her. Just take the paperwork you have to prove that it's pending.

Either way, I'd get her checked out. If you have to make payments to cover it the hospital will work with you on that, or eat the cost if you really can't afford it.

Tell her to stop being a stubborn *** and go to the doctor.

Quit being a p'ussy. Her life could be in jeopardy, not to mention her future reproductive capability. Just because her abdominal pain isn't what you've heard it typically is in an ectopic pregnancy doesn't mean it can't be presenting with abnormal symptoms. Man up. Hog tie her and drag her to the ER if that is what it takes.

Well, thank you ladies for your advice, it is very much appreciated :)

I forced her to go as soon as I was able to get out of work, and just now got out of the hospital (we were there for about 9 hours). It turns out that she had a 'functional cyst' on her ovary. It ruptured and released fluid into her abdomen, which is the cause of the more severe abdominal pain.

I felt bad, they were convinced for a good portion of the evening that she'd need to have her appendix removed. Luckily that wasn't the case.

As a fun aside, I now have an ultrasound of my baby!!!!!

Well, its kind of a blobby dottish thing at the moment, but hey, he must take after his daddy.
:proud:

I'll link the pic tomorrow morning!

Thank you again for the advice... I can sleep peacefully tonight.

Sorry extremely late to this party (tried to log on last night late at home but password was malfunctioning) - but glad it worked out ok. I hear you when it comes to treasuring that grainy ultrasound photo - it's the most amazing thing ever, the first tangible confirmation of a life changing event.

As for fevers. You did the right thing going to the hospital/treatment room. Normally for any patient a fever over 104 is a concern and requires attention. But pregnancies can play havoc with normal temperature control and mis-represent what you read/feel. Therefore if you or your partner feel concerned no matter how inconsequential you think it might be seek expert advice. It is not stupid, it is not trivial. It is your sanity, your wife and the little ones well being and sanity.

As for health insurance - well I know here in New York we'll treat you in the absence of any health insurance and pregnancies are automatically covered by Medicaid. As I'm originally from the UK I don't know about other States.

Anyway good luck!
