Who will be the Dem's nominee?Follow

This is a tangent to the thread on Scooter Libby and the commutation of his sentence. During that discussion Smasharoo stated Hellbeast Clinton would not be his party's nominee for president, suggesting by omission that Barack Obama will get the nod. Yet that flies in the face of something he said six months or so ago where he stated that no black man could be nominated or elected president of the United States in this day and age.

So which is it? And if not her or him, then who? Kuccinich? Unlikely in the extreme.

It's too bad we can't off Hillary and let Bill take her place.

I'm hoping for Edwards, but I bet it'll be Obama.

I don't think Obama, or Hilary for that matter could win over-all election.

No idea. Frankly, I refuse to worry about it until 2008. Too much chance for some dark horse to come up to the fore.

I seriously doubt I stated no black man could be nominated. Not elected, sure, not nominated seems unlikely.

I think Obama's more likely than Clinton to win the nomination, that said, I think it's more likely still it will be neither of them.

Obama...Hilary's got nothing.

Either way, it's pretty hard to believe that the Dems will botch another election, but believe you me, they will find a way.

For what it's worth, out of the crop, I prefer Obama. Partially because of who he is and what I've heard from him and partially because he's not Hillary. Hillary's policies strike me as ranging from identical to inferior compared to Obama's and, to be blunt, I don't like her attitude. She has an arrogance about her, perhaps born from her presumptative nomination, where she feels that she can do no wrong. After spending eight years with a guy who felt that his decisions were handed down from the Mount, I don't need it again in a Democrat.

That said, if she does win the nomination (and she's polling well higher than Obama at the moment) I'll almost certainly vote for her in the general election. For as much as I dislike her, there's no Republicans running who I like more.

I hope you didn't take that from me since I followed it up with comparing her to Bush's arrogance and my distaste for that as well. I don't care what's between your legs, if you feel that you were ordained by God/Fate/Whatever to your position rather than thankful for the people who put you there to represent them, I'd rather not have you. That's how you wind up with luminaries like "The Decider".

While I'm sure nearly every elected official feels something of the former, I sense more of it in Clinton than in the average bear.

Gotcha. I do, in all sincerity, think that your perception of her "arrogance" has something to do with her gender. I think my perception of her is effected by her gender, too. I think it would be impossible for this not to be the case given the society we live in.

Nowhere to run with it, I just think it's silly for you to assert that you're somehow blind to gender and free of societal mores regarding it. It is, of course, possible that you've escaped the bonds of the normal human experience and haven't been shaped by the expectations of the society you were raised in and instead make informed decisions based on reason and objectivity instead of conforming.

Something to think about at mass, I suppose.

;-)

*Shrug*

I think it's silly for you to assert that gender is the major determiner in my perceived flaws. So we both get the chance for lots of extra keystrokes while we claim to be right and defend the unprovable.

Yay!

Place a gun against my temple and I'd tell you Hillary will be the Democratic Party's nominee, perhaps with Obama holding the second half of the ticket. That being said, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it were reversed as well.

As for anybody else, I haven't seen anything resembling lightning in a bottle when it comes to Edwards, Richardson, et al. At this point in time it appears they are all running for third place or worse, perhaps in the hopes of being asked to be Veep.

Polling is fairly meaningless at this point. Dean and Lieberman both polled ahead of Kerry for much of 2003. Fund raising matters more, but at this point in the process, the idiots that actually nominate and elect people are mostly unaware that there's going to be an election at all.

I'm hoping for Obama, but I think Hilary is going to get the nod (sadly). Americans are familiar with Clinton, whereas Obama is still relatively unknown to some people. That fact along may be enough to get her the nomination - it makes her more marketable, wouldn't you think? And i'm getting the feeling that this election is going to be more about marketability of candidates than it is actual policies.

I just shudder to think whats going to happen to the video gaming world if Clinton gets the nomination... we may as well give Jack Thompson the nomination.

Yeah, but believe it or not he really did raise a lot of money from the Ann Coulter thing. He's probably realistically $10M behind or so right now, which is nothing if he has some sort of good PR moment. Also consider Edwards as far as false polling goes. Polls traditionally show blacks and women with much higher numbers than their actual vote margins. If Edwards can lock up the mysogonist/racist vote, he'll be in great shape. I know Obama is clean and everything, and that Bill will keep Hillary's arrogance in check to some degree, but having a spent a good deal of time in NH and in Iowa, I'd have to say both states are just chock full of prejudiced crackers. Democratic prejudiced crackers who would never want to pass a law that black people couldn't run for President, but who would also never ever vote for one.
