You make the estuary lots of fun....

Quote:
...in some European news media, mirth-provoking photos have been popping up in the past few days of an object - a big object - that has quickly become the signature attraction of "Loire Estuary 2007," an outdoor, contemporary-art exhibition in France featuring works by 30 artists from around the world. Their creations have been installed along a 40-mile corridor at the mouth of the Loire River, stretching from Saint-Nazaire, on France's Atlantic coast, to Nantes, which lies inland.

The smile-provoking concoction that's responsible for this little shot of joy in a global-warming-heated summer, against a backdrop of war chaos and political cant, is a giant rubber duckie created by the Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. After wrestling with some air-inflating problems, his 105-foot-tall, 85-foot-wide "Rubber Duck" finally took to the sea (that is, to the estuary) last weekend....

That's a big rubber ducky.

You know, not only is that the largest rubber duck I've ever seen, it's somehow also the cutest.

Yeah, they're cute when they're babies. Just wait until you have a 300' tall inflatable duck walking around, quacking loudly and shitting everywhere.

Kind of reminds me of an incident around here last week. It was the local 'Whatever' Days; the capitol cities yearly summer festival. One of the events is a rubber ducky race down a little stretch of the Kennebec River.

Just so happens, a local business with a couple of old manifolded oil tanks sprung an oil leak. The oil ended up in the river at about the same time as the rubber duckies. Yes, we had oiled rubber duckies.

The Whatever Race was so much better when I was a kid. Everyone designed their own float. One year, there was a Christmas float with a snow machine. I got hit with a snowball in June.

I've heard that from many people. Did someone drown or something to force the change?

I've no idea, to be honest. Someone probably had some bright idea that killed it.
