Child taken from mom because she MIGHT get PPD?Follow

THE grandfather of a baby taken into care immediately after he was born is accusing social services of discriminating against his daughter because she has a form of autism... Their argument was that because she has Asperger’s Syndrome, she is at risk of getting post-natal depression, and that there would therefore be the likelihood of her neglecting the baby.

So now we're taking children away from their parents because they MIGHT get a common and easily treatable problem that is unlikely to result in any harm to the child?

...the f'uck? There's probably some sort of risk factor for PPD in a good 75% of new moms. Since when did "risk factor" become the criteria?

I think the question that is on everyone's mind is, how in the hell did you run across this story?

Bad case of PPD?

For a child to be taken into care in the UK there must be evidence of 'reasonable grounds'. While Asperger's is a condition that many can live with, it can make raising an infant pretty scary when the only signals you can pick up are the literal meaning of spoken words.

This story only gives the Grandfather's perspective. I'm guessing there's a whole history about the mother that the Social Services department can't discuss.

And it's a very lazy headline. The child has not been 'taken into care'. The child is 'at risk' and the mother and baby are to attend an assessment centre.

Anyway this story is about the Welsh. It's not like they're people or anything. FUck 'em.

To be fair, I have a cousin with Asperger's. The guys got a genius level IQ, but at the same time he lacks the social skills required to be able to function in society.

Not his fault, but he too would be incapable of caring for a child.

I had very similar thoughts. We had a young mother who got on CPS's radar the other day. She and her child will have to be closely monitored. While I'm sure many would think it's racist because she's a recent immigrant and doesn't speak a word of English or have a job, we can't discuss the real reason.

It has something to do with several staffers being offered a free baby.
