Wandering, lonely as a cloud Follow

Is all good when you're stoned, but it doesn't really get you anywhere.

For the first time in my life, I've found a "career plan". I have a clear goal for my professional career, and I finally have the answer to "What do you want to do when you grow up?"

I'm 27, so it was about time I found something to do with myself, instead of going from job to job hoping that it might be slightly less mind-numbingly boring this time. It's too late to become a footy player, I'm not cool enough to be a singer in a punk-rock band, And, let's face it, I won't become the next French President.

So, I'm applying to do a PhD in Public International Law, and hope to become an "academic", with all that it entails. It took me 27 years to find what I wanted to do, though.

What about you guys? Do you have a clear idea of what you want to do, a goal, an ambition, a professional calling? Or have those dreams already been broken? Or do you not have a clue? Did you know from your childhood that you wanted to be an IT guy (gabji)/helicopter pilot (Toutem)/Genius of the World (Smash)/English dandy (Nobby), or was it just the least worse option available?

Been working in the legal field since I was 21 and I have no desire to leave the field. I was one of the lucky ones. Have gotten other degrees along the way since I got my first one. More out of being bored and wanting to learn something different as well as make myself more marketable.

I'm going to be a Police man.

I recently found out that slinging the bindle, professionally, doesn't pay for sh*t, so I guess I'm stuck in Abstracting and Property Law.

Which isn't what I want to do at all but it's going to be a few years before I can really pursue my dream. I want to own a comic shop. Refurbish antique furniture.

Are you serious, or is this like "I wanna be a fireman when I grow up!!" kinda thing?

Cos I think it's a really honourable profession. In another life, I would've totally done it.

So I guess you studied law at Uni, then? Any particular reason?

I studied law as well, just cos my mates were doing it, and I thought it would impress the girls.

And man, did it totally sucked *****

Mark me as "Undecided."
So far I have only managed to find out what I do not want to do.

Not as easy as it sounds.

I guarantee you'll revisit that in a few years.

Actually no, I kind of fell into this job quite by accident. I was a Sous Chef for a number of years and I was pretty unhappy where it was going (My "boss" was a complete fucking idiot. I had to teach him how to hard boil eggs, I **** you not) and was talking to a few customers and I was offered a job at a firm doing local closings on real estate. Not one to ignore a chance and a challenge, I took the position and in time, ended up in Abstracting. A good portion of my job is correcting mistakes that Attorneys make/made and I started to study Property Law on my own time.

So, I can correct your legal issues, sell your house, ***** slap your Property Lawyer and grill you Duck Ravioli in a Mango Chetney, just for the hell of it.

Well, the Guinea Hen breeding and egg production thing didn't go so well (do you know how easy it is to die when you're as dumb as a guinea hen??), so, now I'm thinking I'm gonna be a gourmet mushroom farmer.

There are two things I think I'd like to do. One would be open a daycare. I love kids and have so much fun with them, not one of those snotty dreary places, but one with lots of windows to let the sun in, a great big play area with lots of basic toys that would not only expand a childs imagination but teach them as well. One of those places with a cozy little tree house full of books the kids could read. My mom ran a daycare for many years when I was growing up. I loved it. I was proud of her for going back to school when she gave up the daycare but I really do miss watching those little kids grow up.

The other thing would be to open up a Gaming Center. Plenty of computers to play MMORPGs and Big screen sofa areas to play FPSs. Some music, some social areas, that kind of thing.

Now that retirement is less than two decades away, I've almost made up my mind that all I've ever really wanted to do was retire.

seconded.
While I was a crazy kid and teen I wanted to act. I was good at it, I still am. Even when I began to settle down, it was understood in my relationship I wanted to go professional. I had the door open and knew enough people to have gone for it. But for a few personal reasons, not to mention I couldnt stand LA when I visited there, I decided not to pursue it after really thinking hard about that kind of life.

For now Im a professional mom, with her cosmo license updated but not in use. I figure once the kids are in school I'll get my hands dirty in hair chemicals again. I'm too lazy to think about opening my own salon at this point, but maybe later on I'll change my mind. Right now, I'm just kind of going with the flow, and enjoying it.

The last two sound incredibly tempting.

Not that I have a property lawyer, but if I did, I'm sure I'd want him bitch slapped.
