My Weekend - Concert ReviewFollow

Had a very pleasant weekend in London. Saturday evening, me and Drac had dinner at a pretty nice Lebanese Restaurant with an old friend. Food was great.

Sunday, spent the morning mooching in the Egyptian section of the British Museum, then caught the tube to Wembley. New stadium's well impressive.

Even though I had little time for Diana (a not-too-bright piece of eye-candy with a twee over-simplified view of niceness), I think the princes are a decent pair of blokes. Their introduction was touching - especially Harry's respect to the lads out in Iraq - his "I wish I was there with you" had a passion about it.

As for the concert - dunno if any of you saw it, but from inside the stadium it was awesome. To see such an array of big names was really quite a thing (Me and Drac were almost in "we're not worthy" bowdowns at the sight of Dennis Hopper & Kiefer Sutherland and it was rewarding to boo at Simon 'Man-Bewbs' Cowell.

Anywhoo - the artistes. A personal review.
  1. Elton John did "Your Song". Can't stomach him, but the performance was good. 7/10
  2. Duran Duran - Good songs, showed their age a bit, but only Wild Boys got the crowd going. 7/10
  3. James Morrison - "You Give Me Something" and "Wonderful World". 8/10. Great singer
  4. Lily Allen - "LDN" and "Smile". Hated her until yesterday. 8/10
  5. Fergie - Not my cup of tea. 6/10
  6. The Feeling - 10/10
  7. Pharrel Williams - OK s'pose. 7/10
  8. Nelly Furtado. Got everyone on their feet and looked juicy. 9/10
  9. English National Ballet did a piece from Swan Lake. Amazing. Need to google the prima ballerina. The best Odette I've ever seen. 10/10
  10. Status Quo - "Rockin' All Over The World" - Another band I've always hated, but perfect for the event. 9.5/10
  11. Joss Stone - Loved her stuff until yesterday. Forced, artificial and pretentious performance.3/10.
  12. Roger Hodgson did a Supertramp Medley - Amazed how well he still sings, and loved the songs. Lost points for rabbitting on before singing. 7.5/10
  13. Orson - 9.5/10 FUcking outstanding
  14. Tom Jones - 1st song was amazing. The Voice is something else, but couldn't really hear Joe Perry and Joss Stone ruined the last number. 7/10
  15. Will Young - The most slick blend of choreography, performance and musicianship. 10/10
  16. Natasha Bedingfield - cute - 8/10
  17. Bryan Ferry - Was heading for 7/10 until he played "Stick Together" - 9/10
  18. Lloyd Webber stuff:
  19. Anastacia - What an surprise! 8/10
  20. Connie Fisher - Pretty good. Hate the song 'Memories' - 7/10
  21. Andrea Bocelli - I've slated this guy in other threads having heard him murder high opera. Hearing him sing Lloyd-Webber. Perfect match! 10/10
  22. Josh Groban and Sarah Brightman, Donny Osmond, Jason Donovan and Lee Mead - Bleah! 6/10
  23. Rod Stewart - Another one I hated before seeing him live. 10/10
  24. Kanye West - Bloody Good. 8/10
  25. P. Diddy - The Man. 9.5/10
  26. Take That - Polished. 9/10

Left when Sir Fat Pouff started again.

Ricky Gervaise was pretty good too. (Even got persuaded by the crowd to perform 'the dance' from The Office)

An excellent weekend, thanks for asking

I thought most of the bands did well, however Fergie was phenomenal.
Orson def not my cup of tea, I changed the channel.
Very disappointed Elton didn't play his candle song.

Most of the rest of your counts are spot on.

Fergie was certainly well appreciated, but didn't really spark anything in the way, say, Nellie Furtado did. Not a fan of either, but Nellie somehow got everyone on their feet. (Did you see William doing his 'Dad at the Wedding Disco' dance to annoy Harry?! Hilarious!)

Orson weren't hugely popular as they're not yet very big over here but I'm a fan and they performed with real '*****

Main 2 reasons for leaving were to catch the last tube train, and to avoid the risk of hearing Elton play that song. I loved the original candle in the wind, but the diana version makes me want to eat worms.

We were lucky with seats - all allocated randomly apart from VIPs. We were half way back and half way up. (And only 30 yards from the bar! Whee!)

Meant to comment on that. After the last few days' nasty events, everyone seemed determined to party and stick 2 fingers up at the terrorists.

Everyone chanting, dancing, singing and smiling. Cracking jokes with the coppers during the bag & body-searches. More than one policeman was covered in lipstick kiss-marks.

Strangers swapping cameras for group photographs, etc. One guy ordered 3 beers and only had enough money for 2. The woman behind him in the queue (a stranger) paid for the 3rd. It was that sort of day. I still had a spare ticket but a friend's co-worker had been in tears because she couldn't get a ticket, so I gave her one Smiley: sly.

The only time I've seen the ticket touts universally ignored. I wasn't the only one to give away a ticket.

The affection for the princes was palpable, and when the short films of Diana's life were played, tears were flowing everywhere you looked.

For starters, I had Sujuk, Draccy had Hommos Shawarma and my friend had Mussels in a cream & white wine sauce.

Main, Drac had a bowl of mussels, I had Farrouge, and my friend had a mixed lebanese grill.

Bloody tasty, but the Sujuk gave me a case of the 'ring of fire' next morning (But I am a sucker for food that burns twice)

Glad you enjoyed it Nobby, i took great pains to ignore it totally, mainly because i couldn't stand the manipulative bitch. But i do agree her sons have turned into fine young men (Thanks no doubt to thier father)

The new Wembley for all it's problems has turned out pretty well, i also hear they have turned the dome into a consert hall Smiley: thumbsup about bloody time!

Remember to roll the right sleeve back down and don't forget the button/cufflink.

Always a give-away!

And yes, she's infinitely do-able, but well, dunno, she didn't spark the crowd as she might have.

Maybe that explains the 'puffball skirt'. I never understood it in the 80s and 90s. I don't understand it now.

But maybe I need to factor in 'absorbency'. Hmm.
