LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington said racism was a factor in his firing from the hit ABC series after he twice used an anti-gay slur.

Isaiah Washington said he lost his "Grey's Anatomy" job partly because he was an assertive black man.

Washington, who initially used the epithet during an onset clash with a co-star, told Newsweek magazine that "someone heard the booming voice of a black man and got really scared and that was the beginning of the end for me. "He tried to make amends by expressing remorse and volunteering to enter a counseling program to understand how the confrontation got out of hand, he told Newsweek. "My mistake was believing that I would get the support from my network and all of my cast mates across the board. My mistake was believing I could correct a wrong with honesty and sincerity," he said in the interview posted online Thursday. "My mistake was thinking black people get second chances. I was wrong on all fronts," he said.

Sometimes I wonder what would be worse, being gay, being black or being ignorant. Then you make a post and answer it for me.

Gotta love irony.

Mind you, I once gave an interview, which was then written up by a different reporter from the first reporter's notes. The article got every single word out of my mouth wrong, in a really bad way. Since then I've been very sceptical about the detail of any news story.

I bet there's 95 other reasons why that actor got sacked. The fight itself was probably a last straw. Whatever the fight was about, and we aren't told, that issue was probably a bigger factor than the actor using a gay slur.

But yes, if a black actor got sacked for using gay slurs, the irony is delicious.

I agree with Bodhi, the dude got canx because he was a douchebag. Not because he was black. But being Black give you a free ride right? Smiley: rolleyes

I thought I heard something about an overhaul of affirmative action.

Oh, I'm sure his being black played into it, but only in the sense that he reinforced the negative stereotype of the aggressive, ignorant black man.

He had to leave the hospital, that ugly f'ucking ***** ***** drove him out by not really wanting to marry him. Duh.

Now just to get rid of her and the the other cast members and we can kiss another weak hospital drama goodbye.

My only question is: why did it take so long?

It was more about social shifts in majority/minority and the inability of current Affirmative Action programs to adapt to said shifts. I am a firm believer that they either need to be done away with or completely rewritten from the ground up.

There is no reason that a 'minority' should get special benefits if they are not, in fact, a minority.
