I've seen 70 of those movies. My parents raised me and my brother to enjoy and appreciate all forms of art, including movies. Growing up, I was made fun of because I would sing the lyrics to various musicals, but my favs came from "Oklahoma" "West Side Story" "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot."

Saw that yesterday and thought the list was bs. Where is Braveheart? Usual Suspects? L.A. Confidential? Memento? All of those are a lot better than Vertigo, which is overrated imo.

Edit: I've seen 37 of those. Most of the old ones I know because of English classes about movies, lol!

I agree on Usual Suspects and Memento, what about The Man who would be King, that is easily better than a 1/3 of those movies, and movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, or Cool Hand Luke should have eeked its way into that list.

Right, see how humble I come across? My actual thought process is way more egotistical.

I know, I was trying to be kind, my American Heathcliff, brooding and comely.

/nod Cool Hand Luke should have been on this list.

I've seen only 27 of the 100. To be honest, I have little interest to watch a black and white film, or a film without talking audio.

19 here. I still say my taste in movies is much better than this list. There's some on there I've been meaning to watch. Others I wondered why the hell it's on there.

ET was the first movie I can remember seeing in the theater...I'm pretty sure it's the first one I actually saw in the theater. I only remember the part where ET comes running and screaming out of the bushes...it scared me half to death.

Film lists are always going to be subjective but some of the utter Gbaji that make this list is mindboggling. Who in thier right mnd would put Toy story or sixth sence in teh top 100 films of all time??? Smiley: dubious and are you honestly telling that only 1 film in the 2000's is worth of making the list??

Titanic but no Matrix?
M-A-S-H but No Alien??
Platoon but no Full metal jacket?? Perrrlllleassse!

E.T. was one of those movies that I found peculiarly irritating, just because it was so mawkish. It practically screamed "CRY DAMN YOU! CRY!"

That's about the only thing I remember about E.T. There isn't a particular scene that sticks out that I can vividly remember. I just remember it as a sappy as shit movie.

Mainly just made me want to punch Drew Barrymore in the face. A feeling that was confirmed as prescient when I saw Fever Pitch and actually got up and punched the screen.

Maybe I just missed it in the list, but how did Close Encounters of a Third Kind not rank in there?

Usual Suspects should be in there as well.

Bonnie and Clyde? Maybe in the top 1000 or something.

There were a bunch of pornos that used the mashed-potato-mountain first.

39/100, although I've seen sections of a lot more, just not the whole movie.

I must be the only person who thought The Usual Suspects was okay but nothing exceptional.

Well, actually, I must not be since it didn't make the list, but still...

I don't know why, but I love movies from the 50's.

22. "Some Like It Hot," 1959
36. "The Bridge on the River Kwai," 1957
48. "Rear Window," 1954
55. "North by Northwest," 1959
87. "12 Angry Men," 1957

I've seen all of these already this year. It's hard to go two months without watching "Bridge" or "Rear Window".

59. "Nashville," 1975.

I don't remember that being on the last list (in 2001 or whatever). If it was, I wonder how much it moved up the list now that Bob Altman is dead.

I liked it but certainly didn't think it was any more of classic than, say, Snatch.

I imagine if you were one of the people who said "OMG!!! That dude WAS Soze!!!!" at the reveal it'd have been more impressive. Del Torro's performance was genius, though.

I think the thing I liked most about it was the narration, personally. I thought all the acting was pretty brilliant, and the directing didn't get in the way of that.

Eh, who am I kidding. Mostly I had a crush on Gabriel Byrne.

I think I have a crush on him now too. I saw him in something the other day, I forget what, but he was quite dashing.

I'm not too big on Mr. Byrne. I agree Fenster was awesome, though. My husband was such a dork about it that once in a while he'd say "I'll flip ya, flip ya fo real." just out of nowhere.

I loved E.T. :( I even went to see the theatrical re-release. My favorite part used to be that scene where Drew Barrymore first sees E.T. and starts screaming her head off. That totally cracked me up.

Still not the greatest list (both Godfather's in the top 3) but I think it has a lot of what AFI's list lacks. http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

Forrest Gump should be on the top 10 of any film list.
