25/100 for me. Although some of them I know the plots/endings to via popular culture and so I'm not too inspired to sit and watch them. Still...

However, I have seen "Beerfest". Smiley: dubious

Saw that yesterday and thought the list was bs. Where is Braveheart? Usual Suspects? L.A. Confidential? Memento? All of those are a lot better than Vertigo, which is overrated imo.

Edit: I've seen 37 of those. Most of the old ones I know because of English classes about movies, lol!

You have to keep in mind that the rating criteria likely takes into account the time period in which a movie was made. How industry-changing was the film in question? Look at movies before/after the making of Citizen Kane/The Godfather/etc.

I agree about "The Usual Suspects", but not the others.

I've seen most of the ones on the list. My mom was a classic movie fan, so I saw most of the ones from the 40's and 50's when I was living at home.

25 out of 100 for me.

Sadly, "Titanic" is one of those 25.

One question I have with their list is: How can only one of the 3 Lord of the Rings films be on it? I wouldn't complain if they considered all 3 as one long movie, but they singled out "Fellowship" at number 50 and ignored "Two Towers" and "Return of the King". Smiley: dubious

I know but if that's the case why call it the "Best Movies of All Time"?

What did Bringing Up Baby do for the film industry? It wasn't the first screwball comedy and I thought His Girl Friday was better..

Oh I wasn't trying to say that that was the *only* criteria, just that it may be one of the reasons a particular movie was selected, even if you didn't find it to be particularly enjoyable.

This is as good a time as any to announce I have always had a man crush on Gregory Peck. Jimmy Stewart? Not so much, he's just sort of a weiner.

I'm surprised "Planet of the Apes" didn't make the cut. Just seems like it would fit.

I think the CNN article mentioned that a lot of the people voting for the movies on the list were alive and voting when the first list was compiled however many decades ago, so that probably has a lot to do with it too. Smiley: lol

Yes, but honestly, I find that much more compelling than a list with only the Gen-Xers voting on it (see the IMDB top 100 for an example of that), with things like Return of the King being selected as the best movie of all time. I'd hardly be in a position to vote on such a thing myself, since as I said, I haven't even seen what most folks consider "the classics".

Actually, the IMDB top movie is The Godfather.

http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

I don't agree with everything on that list either, but it's got some of the more recent gems from the 90s and 00s.

Braveheart??

Where is Rashamon? Where is Breathless? Where is 8 1/2?

Is it a list of the top 100 Movies filmed in English? Assuming it is, "On The Waterfront" is rated lower than "Star Wars"? Give me a ******* break.

I have seen 91 out of 100 and I really do not watch that much TV, I suspect it is just that I have a good memory for this sort of thing. Though I did have to look up three of the old movies before I realized I had seen them: "Bringing up baby" "It Happened One Night" and "All About Eve"

The highest ranked movie I have never seen is Raging Bull, I will have to DVR that one if it's playing soon, and most of the rest are silent films.

I suspect people have seen more than they list and just do not match the title with the movie, like the Marx Brother's in A Night at the Opera, most have probably seen it.
