Ooh, that's a good one.

One better?

Running through Kith at night time....

Damn, you're right. That's the winner.

Sat in a Sea King Helecopter when it had a double engine failure.

Especially scary as it only has two engines...

The only reason i survived is because they hadn't got far enough off the ground for it to make a Thud into a SMASHHHHH! Difference between scared Tarv and Dead Tarv? About 30 seconds.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, you make it to this "Rivervale" town and all you find is a bunch of creepy looking short people with hairy feet.

In RL, probably the time I was boogie-boarding and got caught in a rip tide. By the time I got crosswise out of the rip I was nearly out of sight of shore. That was one long push back.

I was SO happy to get close enough in to see my friends waving at me. "Oh, they were worried, how sweet," I thought.

Then I saw the shark flag was up, haha. I think I set a record closing in to shore.

In EQ, has to be either the first night run through Kithicor or the first time across the invisible bridge. There were so many, though.

Ooh I'd forgotten EQ Adrenaline.

My 1st time quad-kiting Spectres in Oasis of Marr had my heart pounding.
FV to LoIo runs as a lvl 20 beats any MMO experiance down for me.

Probley scariest thing that ever happened to me.. well i lived in PA for about 2 years i was 13-14 years old and i was out walking around in a town called northhills we had mall right beside where we lived that had pretty much every thing (****'s sports was awesome you could play tennis basketball inside the store). any way as i was walking around i met up with my 2 older brothers who are twins. well they were not walking they were running away like they just seen a ghost i start running too not know what the hell was going on. so we stop running to rest and ask why they were running. my brothers says they were going on a date with 2 girls who were twins as well when this guy comes up with this jason mask on a motor cycle starts swinging a bat at there heads, well they ran and lost sight of the girls and just kept running til they seen me. so i'm kinda freaked out and really worried about the girls so i tell my older brothers we should go look for the girls. so we head out in the middle of the night looking for them no sign what so ever.

Meh, you could hug the left Wall in Kith if you had a bit about you; in FV nothing not even Invis was 100% sure of making it.

So we are looking for the girls who my brothers left behind when the biker guy shows up again chases down a few ally ways right on heels we finally escape and call it a night go back home wake up the next day the 2 girls that were left behind the night before were at the school bus stop we asked them what happened. there father found out the girls snuck out on a date on school night and went psycho and thought he was jason so he went after his girls the police caught the guy and he's now in the aslyum.

Exactly. I was got killed a couple times in Kith, but it still wasn't nearly as scary as running from FV out in the open like that. The corpse runs were way less fun in FV too.

Ugh, I did that with my very first character. I couldn't get my friends to help me get my corps back. God, I hated people after that for awhile.

Why is it with EQ your newb stuff matters so much to you and any other MMO you could care less? Oh, that's right: because you had to work for it.

My first character was deleted after attempting his first transcontinental journey from Qeynos to Freeport at level 10. I managed to dodge griffons and hill giants while navigating the Karanas. I avoided gnolls and orcs while wandering for hours in Highpass, and then I hit Kithicor in the middle of the night, clueless as to the evils that were ahead.

That poor toon had even struggled to buy a sewing kit to fashion his own armor from the scraps of rats and bears, only to find out that he didn't need a "small" sewing kit, he needed a regular one. I combined all my materials before I tried on any of the gear I made, and then I discovered that I couldn't wear any of it.

Talk about working for it. I loved it, though.

Hah. The most pulsepounding experience in EQ had to be my very first Fear raid. It was waaaaay back in the day and for some reason I still don't understand (something to do with more roamers near west wall at the time), the raid leader decided to do a north wall break. Realize that this was my first ever planar raid. I didn't know where I was going or why, but I ran to the north wall keeping the big wall'o'fire to my right. Somehow I managed to actually make it and /camp. Still don't know why. I could actually see mobs running around from place to place tearing people to bits. That was "scary". Very very scary...

Naggy raids were cake in comparison. Actually, the most stressful single raid opponent I ever fought was aardarsomething in NToV. Just in terms of duration of fight. I never actually did the highest end Velious/Luclin content, so that was about the longest I ever did. Later expansion raids were usually about dealing with programmed adds and whatnot during the fight, but the fights themselves were typically not that long. I just remember spending *forever* to defeat that sucker. Got him on the first attempt though, so that was good.

/agree on the FV->LoIO run. The spiders had big agro ranges, half of them could see through invis, they were often "hidden" in the little nooks and crannies of the terrain, they ran super fast (sow speed) and could root. Oh. And they were level 30ish smack between where you landed when arriving in Kunark and the major zone for levels 10-20. Go figure!

Also /agree on the "falling in befallen". I did that at like level 17. I remember spending a ridiculously long time trying to get sufficient help to recover my corpse. Long enough where I was actually starting to worry about corpse rot. That was "not fun". Afterall, I had all my incredibly groovy leather and bronze stuff! And a mino axe!!!

Heh. I've really got to say that in terms of "scary" EQ still has every other game beat hands down. In single player games you can always reload, and very few mmorpgs have/had the "cost" to dying that EQ had. So when you got that sick feeling in your stomach when everything went to heck, huge train, mobs agroed from the wrong areas, the bard saying "let me try this new song..." you *knew* it was bad. Very very bad...

Real Life: Me and about 10 friends decided to go across the street to Blockbuster to get a movie. On our way there, my friend Andy was wearing a Compton hat, and just as we were about to get in the parking lot these African-American fellows yelled "F*** COMPTON N****" and many other obscenities. So we got the movie and on our way back, we are crossing the street and there is a jeep coming so someone yells " RUN" so we all start hauling ***. My friend Andy just dead stopped and everyone else kept running. Needless to say i hit him and fell. The jeep didnt even hesitate and i rolled out of the way with seconds left. I didnt tell my parents Lol.

EQ: It would have to be the time when i had my first character Mulania in GFAY. I heard the best training spot at the time was the EC orc huts. So i shout " Any Ports to WC?" I get a tell immediately and am on my way. I get ported and within LITERALLY seconds... im dead. I cried so hard at the age of 8. I never got that corpse back. just a naked Wood Elf occupying space.
