Is he doing sideshows? A kid could get into a lot of trouble at one of those.

If you want to give me the BMW, I'd be grateful.

San Diego's a hotspot when it comes to some major car shows and I know that he's going to be going to those once someone in his set has a license. I have a few cousins that at some point or another had show cars and quite a few of us raced. A few of the girl cousins were import models at one point. I can totally understand the lure of a gorgeous fast car. I know my son's going to want to race and I'll take him to the time trials at Qualcomm Stadium for him to see those kinds of races.

Sanctioned car shows aren't a problem, it's the afterhours sideshows that end up killing kids. I dunno, maybe sideshows are an Oakland(Bay area)/Stockton(Central Valley) thing, but they've done plenty of damage around here. It seems to be a confluence of Fast and Furious fans and kids who are bored and have no place to go party. They find a deserted parking lot or back street and do alot of drifting and street racing.

Like I said, they generally are trouble, if for no other reason than they are illegal. The cops around here impound the cars, take licenses, ticket onlookers, etc.

That happens a lot here in San Diego. When I was in high school, my cousins and I used to do a bit of racing and we were lucky enough to not get hurt (I had a few close calls). There was a major crackdown after more than a few teens were killed or seriously injured. There was a major accident in my neighborhood a few years ago where two girls were killed. I know that the driver's training classes aimed at teens in this area emphasize the dangers of side shows so the hubby and I will be building on that.

He was reminded that driving is a privilege, not an entitlement or a right, and if he wants to have an issue about the car he's allowed to drive, we'll make it easy for him and not allow him to drive at all. We thought we provided a good compromise and if he keeps acting like he thinks the car we are providing him is a POS, we'll just take it away.

Congratulations, you've taught your son that being an ******* is a substitute for parenting. Be sure and post how it's a huge mystery to you why he started doing meth and asphyxiating himself while jerking off a year from now.

Hahahahahahaa, Smash would totally throw a fit if this were done to him, and that is hi-LAR-ious.

Good job, Thumb. Most kids are subconsciously looking for the line, and you pointed it out quite nicely. A pouty fit is a pouty fit at any age. If he wants something better, he can sell this car and get it himself, or think his way through it like a big boy. Sounds like he has some choices to make, and at least this way you're not dragged into guilt for something you have no need to feel guilt for. You're approaching that line of parenthood where he has to learn to deal witht things on his own, and this is a good way for him to transition into that kind of thinking.

Of course I wouldn't. Although to be fair, my parents weren't insecure confused people who needed to play power games with children.

Different strokes, I guess.

Everyone's insecure and confused, and everyone fucks up their kids. Cry me a river. If this is the most damage she ever does, she'll still have done a stellar job.
