The 2012 Olympics Logo...Follow

Is a complete dogs breakfast.

WTF were they thinking?

Olympics minister Tessa Jowell. Said "This is an iconic brand that sums up what London 2012 is all about".

If London is 'about' a pink block of coucil flats collapsing in a heap (wich is what it looks like to me) I'm glad I left when I did. I thought the Millenium Dome was a shockin' waste of money, but that was good value compared to this abortion.

(I always thought the Millenium Dome shoulda been used for giant dance parties and renamed 'Chippy Mintons Rave Dome', anyway)

The other thing it looks like is the title of a classic anarchic saturday mornin' kids show, Tiswas.

Nobby might remember it. (unless he was a Swapshop fan.Wich i sorta doubt...)

Rumour has it the Logo wich was designed by Wolff-olins had the figure 40,000 quid attached to it!! I would hope that they got more than just the logo for that price.

The true figure was £400,000, and it took one year to design. I kid you not. I could'v done better in the tube this morning, and that's during rush hour.

I totally agree it looks awful, like the regurgitation of a pink bacardi breezer.

I'm hopeful they'll change it time for the Olympics.

If not, roll on 1972!

I mean, 2012!

It's all the fluorescent pink that's confusing me..

The year of the Olympics in london is 2012. That's what the logo is actually saying, with the olympics rings taking up the space in the "0".

20
12

The numbers have been put into a very eighties design... which if you haven't noticed, is what the most expensive magazines, haute-couteur designers, and cashed-up fashion victems and mega-stars are wearing since the last several months.

"Any good design studio could have come up with something similar for 10,000 pounds, 400,000 pounds is ridiculous!" This is very true... and yet it's also true that when ANY government is paying for world-class pretigous monuments, buildings and events, prices suddenly universally getted jacked up 40 times by the private sector, to assure the government that they are paying for world-class quality. Capital buildings, war monuments, world-series sports, prices suddenly hit the stratosphere.

Right now eighties style is cutting edge, and cities are starting to finally value their graffitti art. It might not be worth 400,000 pounds, I might have hated that particular shade of pink the first time it came around, I might hate a lot about the eighties now, that I blindly accepted then, being immersed in the stuff...

But there's no doubting that as the haute-couteur fashion trickles down to the reasonably priced, good quality, middle-class stores, then flows on down to the bargain bins... There's every chance that that design is going to look better and better as 2012 approaches.

I swear I'm never going to wear that shade of pink again >.<

I saw about 20 designs better in the newspaper yesterday that looked far more professionally done and personally i think it should have been a competition for kids aged 12-16 to try and get them involved rather than wate $800,000 on hireing a crappy designer to do it.

the best one i have seen so far is the one at the bottom of this article

Oh wow, that logo is hawt!

So... this logo is animated? I don't understand how mis-publication can possibly be what's wrong with it. I mean, I didn't even notice the 2012 until Aripyanfar said so. Before that it looked like some kid drew pink lightning bolts and drew the word London on it with a ruler.

The only way this could happen is if London got nuked by LSD-filled bombs. Otherwise, that shade of pink will never look good.

And trends are stupid. It might be the 80's now again, but in 5 years? It could be the 30's that are back in fashion, for all we know. And where will the Art Nouveau logo be then?!

It sucks. They should've submitted it to a vote or something. This craptastic logo is a disgrace, and confirms my long-standing theory that the brits don't have any clue as to what to do with the Olympics now that they got it.

The only reason they applied for it was so that Paris wouldn't get it. And now that they've won, the costs are sipralling out of control, the logo sucks, Londoners are worried about they'll park their cars, what with all the bloody tourists coming in and whatnot.

It's not too late.

Just admit you cheated, and give it back to Paris!

Before it was pointed out to me, I didn't see the 2012 either. It just looked like a random mess to me. It seems to me most people don't see the 2012 unless they are told, so that looks like an utter failure to communicate within the logo design, to me.

When you see the whole olympic ads, with the logo animated and jumping around in lots of different colours, and the colours shooting up into towers over the city... it all looks a lot better. But all by itself, holding still on a page, in hot pink and yellow... *eyes bleed* ouch!

ewwwurch... one thing... they've really succeeded in raising hte profile of the London 2012 games, EVERYONE's talking about them, how awful the logo is! They might have actually got their 400,000 pounds worth of publicity o.o

It's the Olympics. You know that giant waste of money that nobody pays attention to anymore and which any sport not based on time/speed is entirely rigged?

Still pretty fugly though.

K'ching! A BBC Radio listener said it looked like Matt Groening's depiction of Lisa Simpson meeting Bill Clinton in the Oval Office.

Saul Bass's exhumed corpse coulda designed a better logo.

The Chicago 2016 logo was cool, but they had to discontinue it because the torch is a registered trademark of the IOCC.

Tonight on the Daily Show, Jon Stewart said it looked like a slot machine going down on a stop sign. They also said the animated version was taken down because it was sending people into epileptic seizures.

Yeah, but watching curling in 1.5x playback, and taking a drink every time a thingy hits another thingy is a good time.
