It's heartening to see marketing be so effective on the masses, but the reality is smoking just isn't THAT bad for you, kids. Is it better to not smoke than to smoke? Yes. Is it the most important risk factor for a society of fat drunk NASCAR fans? Um, no, it isn't.

Hey! I'm not fat, and I certainly don't like NASCAR!

Besides, my reasons for quitting certainly don't include "prolonging my life." I just don't want to drop nearly $100 a month to smell bad and get stressed out easily.

Wow, rational thoughts about the smoking habit in this day and age? You must be very brave. Most people don't realize that the entire anti-smoking movement was an equally successful mass-marketing/propaganda campaign. What they are selling is the demonization of an entire industry based on deaths caused by said industry. If we would apply those same standards to industry in general, targets would be apparent everywhere. Protecting people from themselves seems to have become the new American pastime.
