But she was looking at our pint in a funny way. She deserved all she got.

OK, it was 576 years ago, and in hindsight, maybe burning a teenage girl to death could be considered a tad extreme, but surely keeping France under English rule was a worthwhile cause.

I've just booked my hotel near the Vieux Marche for a weekend break in Rouen next month. Call me sentimental, but as I walk past the spot where Joan of Arc was executed, I will probably spit at it.

I'll then revisit some of the finest restaurants and bistros I know. It's clear that the food is only so outstanding as a direct result of our awesome English influence all those centuries ago.

I would've been a lot more angry about Joan if we hadn't sold her to you guys first, to be honest. Especially since France knew exactly what would happen to the poor loony girl.

Still, it is a beautiful story, and surely a great example of an early yet productive Franco-British cooperation.

The only downside is that she as been recuperated by the National Front, and Luc Besson.

True, but that awesome English influence was in fact a direct result of our 1066 invasion! What goes around...

Be sure to let me know if you have any run-ins with the police.

They seem to have gotten even stupider since Sarko was elected, putting them roughly on par with the defecations of a retarded giraffe.

Funnily enough, that's one country where I've yet to have an adverse experience with law enforcement agencies.

In the event I take a beating for failing to salute a passing garlic or 'being foreign in a public area' I'll let you know how many marks out of 10 they get.

The Spanish Guardia Civil are still top of my table (8/10) - I got broken ribs, a few loosened teef <<insert Brit Dental joke here>> and had to pay a $100 bribe to get out of clink. Was a fair cop though; I had cheered on Northern Ireland when they beat Spain 3-1 in the '82 World Cup in Valencia.

In the last 5 years, I've been fined for jumping over the metro turnstiles, which is an outrage since its a traditional French custom, I've been fined for playing football on the Invalides grass, and I spent 8 hours in a cell for being drunk on holiday and spilling wine on a Gendarme's trousers.

And I don't even live in the friggin place...

Mexican police were the best, though. A 200 pesos gift for being caught with coke, and they even wished us Frenchies good luck at the World Cup!
