Coming to the end of a chapter Follow

Well as most of you know i am presently employed by Her majesty the Queen to rule the high sea's in her name, chasing down Pirates and flogging frenchies to the quick and all that...

Well today is my last day at sea on a vessel of war, I leave the ship to attend the Birth of my second baby before the ship sails from Sunny Barbados, and while i do have over a year left before i finally hang up my flaired trousers and jaunty hat for good i will be gainfully imployed at an Airfield for that period not at sea where jolly Jack Tar should be.

It's a funny feeling when a chapter in you life closes, especially when it's you doing the closing, sad and yet i can't wait, I know in years to come i will remember all the good things and the great people but right now the stench from the broken toilets (Heads) and the memory of drunken idiots keeping me awake for the last couple of nights is somewhat taking the edge off...

I have said before that i feel that the Royal Navy is sinking under the wieght of poor funding and poor leadership from primarily people who have no idea how our organisation is run ( I.e civil servants who would know a corvette from a battleship), but i can't help but have pride in what i have done and seen in the last 11 years.

It's going to be a sad day next friday when i step of the gangway for the last time.

Ive absolutely had my sh'it ruined in the last couple of days and I am going on 2 hours sleep so forgive me for not being verbose enough to properly state how happy I am that you get to go home and enjoy your family yet feel for you in the face of leaving something that has been such a large part of your life for so long.

However if you ever need to talk about the time the six fingered prostitute tried to sell you a monkeys paw that granted wishes you will always find a captive audience in forum=4.

Good luck on baby number two, Tarv.

As to the end, I say embrace your departure. The Navy has to be the boringest branch of the military these days. When was the last time you torpedoed something?? Smiley: laugh

Gawd, my typing sucks.

Congrats on the second baby!

11 years is a long time and quite an accomplishment. You should be (as I am sure you are) be proud of yourself.

Also, if there is a rise in Pirate pillaging over the next year I will know who to blame.

What, did you finally man up and have The Talk?

Glad to hear you're getting back to the family, tarv. Unfortunately you always have to close one door to open another.

Congrats on the baby Tarv. Life tends to be all about leaving one path in order to follow another, and all I can say about that is to make the best of it.

Good luck mate.

And as one who pushes biros around paper and talks Shit for a living while leaving it to others to go in harm's way for us, my sincere thanks.

Now go procreate some more, enjoy getting your land legs back, and the Best of British to Mrs tarv and tarv Mk III.

I thought I heard the skipper say,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
To-morrow you will get your pay,
It's time for us to leave her.

The work was hard, the voyage was long,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
The seas were high, the gales were strong,
It's time for us to leave her.

The food was bad, the wages low,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
But now ashore again we'll go,
It's time for us to leave her.

The sails are furled, our work is done,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
And now on shore we'll have our fun,
It's time for us to leave her.

From Tom Lewis, now a singer songwriter, but formerly a Chief engineer in HM Navy.

When I was just a little lad, I thought I'd like to go to sea
I served in the navy a qaurter of a century. Served in deisel and in steam, surface ships and submarines, but when you hear my story Im sure that you"ll agree.

refrain
An ex sailors life is the only life for me, I'd rather cruise a country road then sail upon a stormy sea. Rather stand on solid ground than on a deck that heaves around. yes an ex sailors life is the life for me.

I never heard a shanty but the deisel sounded just as sweet
There was lots of comradship you didnt find on Civy street.
But when the seas were running high, I often wished that I could die!
A seasick sailor is an ugly sight to sea.

Refrain.
An ex.......
Id rather drink me tea in bed, than heave my breakfest in the head.
An ex sailors life is the life for me.

There are 3 more versus. Check out Tom at Selfpropelled music. He has some great stuff.

Swallowing the anchor isnt easy but you know when its time. Good luck the rest of your duty. Congrats on the new baby.

Thatll do. ( Or as the US Navy said. That is well. Say it fast enough and it comes out with the word swell. )

I may not be smart, but I've always been the birthday-party guest who pissed the candles out on the cake before the birthday boy could huff and puff.

It's my thang

Those chapters are funny things. The recollection of them is always like looking back into an old room... I'd almost attribute it with the Sense of Smell oddly enough.. the memories always come back unexpectedly when a particular instance of sensation happens that reminds of something random from that time..
After a while you come to realize that the chapter that you though that you were in is long passed.. It is sometimes intense to come to the realization of a new one.. and during those times when we are aware of our new circumstances as they are happening; I find that it can be some of the most wonderful experiences in life.

I suppose that it is simply the matter of getting older and thus having a larger string of memories behind you... providing the greater opportunity to orginize them and reflect off of them.. When you are younger the memories of life are brief childhood flashes of a newly misconstrued mindset.. Now we can look back and remember precisly what we were thinking at that time on a more personal scale and can properly apply those life lessons and experiences to our current situations.

Soon the chain continues and years later you will look back on the new chapter as another old; only with an improved self-perspective and clarity. One can only grow and learn to cherish ourselves and those that we love.
Truly a wonder of being a life.

Cheers, mate.

Surprised that is has yet to be done, I shall now indulge myself. Congratulations on the growing tribe, Tarv, and may your land legs come quickly.

A British tar is a soaring soul,
As free as a mountain bird,
His energetic fist should be ready to resist
A dictatorial word.

His nose should should pant,
and his lip should curl,
His cheeks should flame,
and his brow should furl,
His bosom should heave,
and his heart should glow (protrude),
And his fist be ever ready
for a knock-down blow...

His nose should pant and his lip should curl,
His cheeks should flame and his brow should furl,
His bosom should heave and his heart should glow,
And his fist be ever ready for a knock-down blow.

His eyes should flash with an inborn fire,
His brow with scorn be wrung;
He never should bow down to a domineering frown,
Or the tang of a tyrant tongue.

His foot should stamp,
and his throat should growl,
His hair should twirl,
and his face should scowl,
His eyes should flash,
and his breast protrude,
And this should be his costomary attitude.

His foot should stamp, and his throat should growl,
His hair should twirl, and his face should scowl;
His eyes should flash, and his breast protrude,
And this should be his customary attitude,
His attitude,
His attitude,
His attitude!
