For those of you ladies who went into labor of your own volition (i.e. weren't induced) do you recall whether or not your sleep improved in the days preceding labor?

It's been several months since I've gotten more than an hour of sleep at a stretch before I have to get up and go to the bathroom. This weekend, however, I noticed several times when I slept for 90+ minutes at a stretch, and last night, I got at least 2+ hour stretches of sleep.

I'm not complaining--damn, it feels good to get some longer stretches of sleep. But I can't shake the notion that this sudden change--especially in a time when the baby should be putting MORE pressure on my bladder, not less--is somehow significant. So I'm polling all the moms I know to try to see who has had this sort of experience and if it correlates with pre-labor.

I didn't have to get up much to pee in the days before my labor started. I noticed it too, and wondered why I wasn't peeing as much.

Oooh, hope this is the start for you!

I was lucky in that I didn't wake up to pee much anyway...it was walking around and whatnot that made me have to pee every 15 minutes, haha. What woke me up was the kicking and Hannah's hiccups, which did not get any better toward the end, haha.

If my sleep was any longer/more restful toward the end, it wasn't memorably so. Here's hoping it's a sign for you though!

I went two days past my due date, and spent the night before labor finally started jogging around my apartment and bouncing up and down. While the image of a 204 pound bouncing Nexa may be funny now, it wasn't at the time.

Thank you, Tare. So far, of the three women who have replied to my inquiry on various fora (my LiveJournal friends list, another message board, and here) all have reported the same thing. Not conclusive by any means, but encouraging.

So here's hoping...

ETA: Nexa, my experience has been the opposite. The baby kicks and moves A LOT but I've never had it interrupt my sleep. The bladder thing though...oy! From 6 weeks on, it's been a problem. Sometimes I'm up 12 times a night.

I never noticed a difference with my sleeping and labor starting. I do remember the baby getting a lot more calm in the days beforehand though. And I remember having a lot of excess energy all of a sudden as if I was driven to just go do things! Thats the whole nesting thing.

I was a nest-er, who just had to do something, or go nuts in the days right before the kids were born. Don't remember much change in sleep, but then memory is fading of all but the day they were born.

That and how I spent 13 weeks on bed rest and once off it, my youngest didn't come for another 17 days. Contractions started the day I was taken off bed rest and were about every 7 minutes with times where they were 2 minutes apart. Still she wasn't go to rush things, until I decided to go 30 miles for pizza, with my girlfriend who was also high risk and due few weeks after me. Then we rush back to the base hospital just in time to have her born, within 5 minutes of getting an IV, I didn't want.

Darn Navy Hospital wouldn't let one have a home birth, and still treat pregnant women as sick needing special care. Didn't matter that I had first natural and easy labors, where they pop out so fast, one almost needed a catcher's mitt.

also with first I was staying at brother's and their dog got very protective of me the last 3 days before oldest was born. If I didn't have so many pillows, I think she would have slept in the bed with me.

I only had to go to the bathroom when I was awake. And I slept 6-8 hours at a stretch in the days prior to giving birth. I did have the nesting instinct, but because Ray got home in time for the birth, he did a lot of the cleaning and housework for me.

I felt Charmaine moving around a lot and the doctor said he wouldn't be surprised if Charmaine came early (which she did). I breathed my way up to about 4 1/2-5 centimeters and then had the epidural. From there, I went to sleep and woke up at about 9 centimeters, breathed through those last dilations to get to 10 and then pushed for about an hour before Charmaine decided to grace us with her presence.

I went into labor both times, but labor stalled which means I was induced once and had an emergency C-section the second time.

I don't remember feeling any better before either birth. In fact, I felt much worse and slept much worse before I went into labor. But all women are different (and I'm one of those that was at my absolute worst during pregnancy, I'm not built to make babies).

I'm no help because though I was having BH contractions a week before real labor on both of em, I was so tired that I could sleep right through them and got up maybe max 3 times to pee. The only sign I can recall signaling the end for me was losing my mucus plug (fookin nasty btw) but I think that can happen weeks in advance.

No pressure, but if I'm going to win the pool you have 8.5 hours to deliver the goods, so to speak. Chop chop!

I'm sure. You know, if I made a thread concerning the urinary habits of AllaFemmes during their pregnant times, I would be looked upon as some sort of deviant. Yet when Ambrya does it, there are no such accusations.

Damn dirty double standards.

To be fair, I was inquiring about their sleeping habits. The reference to urinary habits was coincidental, only relevent insofar as it impacts sleeping habits.

I'm sure no one would accuse you of deviance should you inquire about anyone's sleeping habits (then again, I could be wrong--suppose it depends on the nature of the inquiry.)

Sorry, Samira, looks like my kid didn't want to play nice with you, he was just teasing.

About 50 minutes ago, my water broke, and I've been having irregular contractions (3-8 minutes apart) since. My midwife wants us to come into the birth center in about an hour. So it looks like today might be the day!

Wish me luck...

Well, I'm back home for the moment. My midwife wanted me to come in because sometimes when the water breaks, things can move pretty quickly. That's not the case here, however. When I'm engaged in one activity--lying down, sitting up, whatever, contractions get pretty regular, but when I move around there tends to be a long break before things resume again--a sure sign that it's still really early in labor. Also, the contractions aren't that intense--I've had worse menstrual cramps--another sign that things aren't REALLY rocking yet.

So, I'm gonna try to rest and get some walking done and wait for things to progress a bit more before going back in to the birth center. In all likelihood, Ambrya 2.0 will make his appearance at some point today--it may just not be until this afternoon or evening.

For those of you who need a refresher on what you guessed, this is the thread.
