A few weeks ago, I offered a friend who just got a new Toyota Sienna a referral to my in-laws mechanic, a wonderful, kind, generous man whom my in-laws have been taking their cars to for over 20 years. When Mr. Ambrya and I replaced the Camry last summer, we specifically got another Toyota just because we wanted to keep that association going.

This is that man. Apparently he was having some sort of physical problem, but when his son called paramedics, he greeted them at the door with his hunting guns and fired. He was shot and killed.

Everyone who knew him is in shock, including my in-laws. We think there must have been something physically going on with him that left him disoriented so that he didn't understand people were trying to help him.

Strange thing is, Mr. Ambrya says he and his co-workers were discussing this over lunch today, but Mr. Ambrya didn't realize is was Song they were talking about.

Hinestly, if my name was Songseumsack Tanovan I'd probably commit police-assisted suicide, too. This story's been all over the news here last night and today, you kind of know a celebrity!

Well, here in Portland, anytime there's a police-involved shooting, it's in the news for days, sometimes weeks. Hopefully this one will go by the wayside fairly quickly, since there's really no controversy over whether or not he was actually a danger to the public, unlike some of the police shootings in recent years.

Anything with a high fever could lead to delerium, even something as simple as a UTI. Then again, he could have had delayed onset of schizophrenia (although it usually comes on much sooner) or even a brain tumour.

Poor guy. The body is its own little bag of tricks.
