Car Insurance QuestionFollow

Ok I just purchases a 2007 Chevrolet HHR two weeks ago. I received an initial payment from State Farm of about ten bucks since the overall rate went down. Fast forward to last night. I was leaving work and went to my car and realized all my **** was strewn all over the seats.

Walk around to the other side and sure enough the rear passenger side window is smashed in. Fucker took the watch my father gave me before he died, which was broken and I had in the glovebox to take to the store to have fixed.

But I digress. I take it to the Chevy dealership today and file my insurance claim and leave the car at the dealership. Total damages were the window, the seal around the window itself, and the door panel is scratched to ****. The estimate ended up being $894.12 My deductible is 100.00 and it's being filed under Comprehensive.

Now here is my question. Under Coprehensive you don't pay the deductible for accidents/incidents that are defined as "Acts of God." Would this fall under that category? Or is it going to fall under the "Acts of a Crackhead" law?

The reason I ask is because the last time I had to use my insurance I had hit a deer and did not have to pay the deductible. Thoughts? Experiences?

Companies are all different. For instance, the company I used to work for would have charged you the deductible for the deer incident, too. The bigger issue could be what happens to your rates from here on out. Again, from my own personal experience, one comprehensive claim made no difference with the main company I sold for, but more than one could potentially change the "bracket" (for lack of a better term) your policy qualifies for and can raise your rates more than if you were drunk and ran over a busstop full of blind school children on your way to slamming through a jewelry store window and totalling your car. That is to say, multiple deer collisions or not at fault accidents can raise your rates more than a similar amount of at fault accidents.

In short, call your agent.

I did talk to her today. Luckily I haven't had to use their services in close to eight years. But given the circumstances I was a bit surprised to see I had to pay the deductible. The best part is that where I parked in the lot is under one of the lights and directly under the fucking videocamera and the guard didn't see ****.

Ouch man, sorry to hear about that.

As far as this being an "act of god" or not, I'd say probably not. Acts of god are gonna be more like weather related claims and even the collision with the deer seems an awfully liberal addition. I really doubt they'd include vandalism, because they'd pretty much have to include theft, too, and then why even bother carrying a low deductible like yours? You could raise it to the max they offer and save on your premium, seeing as how there'd basically be no eventuality which would demand a deductible.

I'm more pissed about that than anything. I wanted to punch the guard when I actually finally found the idiot. Forty five minutes after we found our cars, we found the guard talking on his cellphone over at the Walgreen's.

I don't think it's an Act of God. Acts of God have to do more with things that are out of your control such as a hurricane, tornado, animals running into your car, etc.

If anything, I would at least file a complaint with the security company, if possible. If security wasn't being done correctly, you might have a claim there for them to at least pay your deductible.

Sorry about the watch. That sucks. At the very least, file a police report for the watch. Some police departments let area pawn shops and jewelry shops know when valuables are stolen.

I filed the report last night after we came outside. I didn't get a chance to talk to the building manager to review the videotape of the lot. I really don't think the cops here would go to the pawn shops unfortunately :(

Ya, you'll probobly have to pay. Even if the crackhead in question thought he was god at the time.

And sorry to hear about the watch >.<

Your average Security guard makes at or barely above minimum wage and has one and only one mandate (if his job has been explained to him clearly): to observe and report. They have absolutly no more rights to arrest, detain or otherwise apprehend a suspected law breaker than any normal citizen. Because of the poor pay and usualy ****** work schedule and location (at night or in public and treated like **** by the public) they have little reason to do their job correctly, so blame the guy for not doing his job but don't be suprised he didn't do it. He could always go flip burgers for similiar pay.

I know this crap because I worked for my father's Securtiy company in my teens.

This is true Git. But there's more to it. This is the third break-in in the last two weeks of employee's vehicles. So it's now a recurring problem. Our building also houses the Shadyside School of Nursing on the second floor. They also had two cars broken into in the last three weeks. So five total cars in three weeks.

You should indemnify yourself by breaking into cars until you have the $100 for your deductible. Call it self-insurance.

Buy a watch, kill a deer, strap watch to deer. Claim that the deer stole your watch. Voila! Act of God.

The deductible is applicable, no theft and vandalism is not an act of God. Since it's a new car you might want to ask your agent if they offer gap insurance. As it is if your cars totaled the insurance company will only pay the depreciated amount, which probably wouldn't cover the loan. The company I write for offers this so if your new cars totaled we get you a new car. We also have deductible rewards; so if you'd been signed up 5yrs w/a 500$ deductible then you wouldn't have had to pay the deductible, getting 100$ off at each renewal.

Chevy dealer by where Kevly lives?

Your uncle's, dealership commercials drive me nuts. Tell him to please hire a decent jingle writer.

My oldest family lives not far from there, also.

It's only a few miles away from him Elne. Sport Chevrolet in Silver Springs. And I only ended up having to pony up $100 so I'm not all that upset by it. Just curious about it.

you have to pay the deductible.

some dealerships will work with you so it doesnt really come out of your pocket though. vandelism is not an act of god or nature.

les this be a lesson to you. dont put anything in your car that didnt come with it from the factory. 1, your insurance probably wont cover it, and 2. it is just like holding up a sign saying, "this one, i have something cool for you, smash MY window" . same with aftermarket rims and tires.

i have a 2006 HHR btw. love the way it looks, but not real happy with the gas milage considering its a 4 cylinder engine. the functionality is perfect for picking up the kids and going to soccer games, however. 15,000 miles and no problems so far.

Not true. Even if he only had uim his homeowner policy would more than likely cover it. If you have anything of value it's best to just schedule it under your homeowners, or possibly renters.

Living in corpus for so long you learn to leave absolutely nothing of value in your car.

Sorry for the late response. That was the thing that pissed me off the most. There was absolutely nothing on my seats, in the tailgate, nothing at all. The only thing that was out in the open was a handful of loose change in the ashtray. Everything on mine right now is strictly factory. Good to hear you're up to 15k miles and no problems though.
