the perfect level....Follow

thinking about making yet another stroll down memory lane. tired of wandering around Vanguard, even with its stunning graphics. would like to see more of the dungons, but people only group in 3 or 4 of them from 5 to 30, so dont think thats gona happen.

going to spend the 19 bucks for the EQ package that has the first 10 expansions. really only interested in the first 3 though. my plan is to level a character to some level, then explore at that level, putting all my experience in AA points so i dont gain any more levels.

just going to hit the starting areas and mabe the below level 20 fighting areas. befallen, unrest for sure, butcherblock, commons, karrana. no coin, even though i could raid my bros accound and get a couple hundred k if i wanted. and wear only what i loot. no bazzar buying.

probably a monk, or necro for the fd get out of jail free card. mabe a enchanter, can always mez and run, or fear. probably a monk or enchanter. taken the necro path too many times i think.

any suggestions on what would be the perfect adventuring level for these areas? im thinking 20 or 22. will have to grind there, as the low level quests in EQ pretty much blow chunks.

You really should just stick to something like solitaire.

Befallen and Unrest would be the primary dungeons for that region and level span. But you can't switch to AA exp until 51, so you'll just have to die a lot if you start getting too high. There's nothing in Velious that you can do at those levels, though.

Blimey! That didn't take long.

I'm glad I didn't get into Vanguard now, even tho I got quite excited about it when I first heard of it.

I got to say tho that LOTRO is the best fun I've had in a mmorpg ever. (Even with its stunning graphics.) I'm glad I waited.Smiley: grin

Its funny tho'. I really thought that I was going to miss EQ more than I have done. All the usual things about the amount of time I wasted invested in my EQ ranja and missing friends. But even tho EQ is still loaded and has a month or 2 to run before account expires, I have no desire whatsoever to go and log back in even to give my stuff away.

Just goes to show how fickle I must be.......

pretty sure thats in the level 30 to 35 range. dont expect ill be there that long. not to mention, those levels will make me too high for anything in the old world except dungons and giants. mabe aviaks.

as far as vanguard goes, it took me as far as EQ2 did. just got to the point where not only do you spend more time begging for a group at 30, no body is grouping at 30 and up. i quite EQ2 around 30 also.

the first 20 or so levels in any new game are the best. its the time when everything is new, and every path leads to a new experience. past 20, the game play doesnt change any more. just the same ole same ole in differant settings.

the graphics in Vanguard are the best i have ever seen in any game. well worth the money i spent. but the mechanics in Vanguard are seriously broken. a group only game where no one groups past level 30. the game just.....dies. plenty of folk in the 1 to 30 areas. lots of em. just seems like once they ding 30, and leave the tk dungon, they just dissappear.

might try LOTR after a romp through the old stomping grounds in EQ. some guys at work are passing around a couple of those free 10 day things you give to friends. so far, they are not inspired enough to actually purchase the game. they plan on moving to vanguard. mostly a hard core gamer bunch, so they might take it further than i did.

mabe. just really not excieted about the graphics at all. but mabe.

infact, the more i think about it, the less i am feeling the need to do EQ.

bah. gona do it anyway. mabe on a pvp server. mabe getting ganked a few times will kill the urge. i just remembered how underpowered the characters are compared to other games at lower levels without any twink gear. urge fading.

I hope you have better luck than I usually do going back to EQ. I always think I miss EQ more than I really do. I even keep it installed and patched in case I feel like checking it out. Usually when I do log in I feel lost in all the changes that they've made in the 2.5 years since I quit. I usually say hello to the two friends I have that still play on Quellious/Nife and I log out unsatisfied.

Edited to add that there's only one PvP server anymore Shadow. They merged all Zek servers into one that's called simply Zek. It follows Rallos PvP rules.

I thought about installing EQ just to check out the changes. I've not played in almost 3 years, so I'd have no idea what to do anymore. I'd just want to wander around, visit the old areas, then log out.

I've always preferred the 1 meter aluminum ghost levels myself. you know, the ones with the integrated ruler and bottle opener? I used to use the steel ones, but those just get too heavy to lug around, and the plastic ones aren't accurate enough.
